Vienna Marriott Hotel

“Very good”

Excellent service everywhere in the hotel. I would highly recommend. Marriott seem to offer a good quality everywhere, better than many other hotel chains. This hotel was great for drinks, meals etc. Nice atmosphere, set in a good part of Vienna near the city centre opposite a park.

“CHEESECAKE!!!”

I just had to mention the cheesecake in the lobby cafe. Incredible. So good I bought a whole one and brought it back to Uk. The photo is of the San Sebastián cheesecake which is like crème brûlée in a cheesecake. We brought home the mixed berry and it was amazing. Fed all the family all weekend.

Stayed here for work. The hotel is very well located. Staff were friendly and cordial and the breakfast was very good. Had no issues moving around. Rooms were spacious and clean. You could walk to shops, restaurants, the MAK and the Stephansplatz. No complaints

We booked a room that sleeps four - family with two kids of 15 and 9 - for 650 Euro's per night. We booked a room that sleeps four - family with two kids of 15 and 9 - for 650 Euro's per night. At check in we were given a standard twin room and it was explained to us that this is the Marriott standard for a family room that sleeps 4. Five star hotel claiming that 2 beds of 1.40m in a less than 30sq. m. room is their standard for sleeping 4 ?!?! When we informed the receptionist that we were leaving, he refused to give us a refund, because we had booked through booking.com. In order to get things settled in peace, his colleague phoned to the Ritz next door, which turns out to be also a Marriott property. We had the option to stay there for an upcharge of 1.700 euro per night in a room that was more suitable for 4... I know that Europe is in total crisis, people are dying of war and hunger every day, but I got kind of angry because of this little outrage. We accepted to stay because the kids were tired and we found the up charge of 3 x 1700 = 5.100 Euro for a bigger room in the Ritz a ridiculous proposition. I mean, come on! 7000 EUR for a 3 night stay? I don't even know if that includes breakfast. The bottom line is that a respectable 5 start hotel in Vienna is renting out a plain twin room for 4 persons, which is completely unacceptable. When traveling with a family - think twice before you book the Marriott, or at least read the booking form VERY carefully. It is fair to say that after having slept 1 night as sardines in a can, the hotel management moved us to a way bigger room (without extra charge). They said they were sorry for the whole situation, but because they were booked out on the first night, they did not have the possibility to accommodate us in a bigger room. In needs to be said that the staff throughout the hotel is very friendly and polite. I've got the feeling that the they are being squeezed between their Austrian tradition of hospitality and the American company policy and management, the latter often being a reason for friction in European companies with US owners. The front desk manager mentioned to have written a serious email to their bosses in the U.S. to not book 4 people in a standard twin room any longer. We'll see.
