If I could give this hotel 6 stars I would. Location is EXCELLENT to city centre. Literally minutes to walk to historical attractions & many of the Christmas markets. Hotel is exceptionally clean and rooms are so spacious by European standards. Last, but not least, the hotel staff provided exceptional customer service. From front desk, to bell services and cleaning staff. A special thank you to Patrick at the front desk. It was his first week at the hotel, and he was so helpful and gracious. I will highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Vienna. We stayed a short two days.

“Expensive but central location”

Hotel is next to Herengasse Metro Station. It is only 5 mins walk to Rathaus Christmas Market and 5-8 mins to Stephendom Christmas Markets. It is in a good location in the city centre, conveniently next to Cafe Central and behind Am Hof Christmas Market. Unfortunately due to the location comes with the very high price per room per night at peak time in the year (December). Hotel was cozy (but lacked enough chairs in reception, often full up) but has no views. The room itself is a good size with everything needed. Particularly like the toilet having its own door within the bathroom space. Would have preferred shower only instead of bath but dont think they have this option. Room/hotel is clean and modern. One lift was out of order for most of 2 days at least - luckily we were on the second floor. The team on reception were polite and helpful. Did not use the bar but this looked very busy all the time. For breakfast, there were plenty of options. Although the breakfast egg bar, she got my order wrong and added cheese when this was not requested so it was wasted unfortunately. Tea bags/teas and coffee are good quality. Lovely fresh bread selection. All in all, a good stay with great location.

There is no doubt the location is great - central but quiet. The building is lovely. But the rooms are very small, though nicely decorated and equipped. The lobby is nice. However, it was really disappointing when the hotel wouldn't budge to change my booking by a day - even though they admittedly had space - because it was booked with an online travel agency, which they said could only be the ones to approve the change. Of course, the online agency was impossible to reach (note: always book directly with hotels and airlines these days). But just a few days early the same situation happened at another hotel in the area and that hotel was happy to accommodate this move. Steigenberger's resistance to help felt mendacious and stingy.

We came to this hotel for a special event and I had selected it from a 5* hotel list. That was not a good move. We had ordered a luxury room and had also purchased an upgrade to a high floor for a better view. Not a good move. The room was small and the view was zero. So I complained and we got a bigger corner room with a view. One cannot say the hotel is bad but it is not 5*. The shower is a flexible one inside a bath - in a tiny bathroom. For a 5* hotel you would expect something significantly grander. The entrance hall is ok but surely not worthy of a 5*. But the hotel was clean - the staff friendly - the breakfast buffet really good and the location excellent. So it is definitely ok - but it you think you are treating yourself to a 5* experience - like several booking sites advocate it - you are mistaken.
