“Highly recommended. ”
Id recommend this hotel.its in a great location, 5 mins from the underground and 10 mins from the city hall. The room we booked was great, a fabulous size and the view was incredible. The heating in the room was great and it kept us very warm during a snowy Decembers day.

Given the mixed reviews for this hotel we arrived with a little trepidation! We made our booking based mainly on the location - it’s 5 minutes away from the Schottentor public transport hub where you can catch a number of trams and streetcars, as well as U-bahn line 2, meaning you can easily access more or less anywhere in Vienna (streetcar line D will take you directly to/from the main station). As mentioned in previous reviews there are a number of bars, restaurants and coffee shops nearby - avoid the Aida Konditorei chain and use the great smaller coffee shops if you can. We found it a very pleasant 20 minute or so walk to the very centre of Vienna (eg St Stephen’s Cathedral) and around 10 minutes from Rathausplatz where many public events are held - during our stay it was the Vienna Film Festival. We found the hotel to be very reasonably priced, especially for a generally expensive city such as Vienna, and so booked one of the Superior rooms. On arrival we were told that there was a ‘technical problem’ with our room, but were given an upgrade to a triple room with a large balcony (109) - I would recommend booking this room if you visit, it was lovely! The room was very clean, spacious and modern (as opposed to the classic/dated wood panelled style of the communal areas). The bathroom was clean and modern with a nice shower, and a fridge and tv were provided in the room. The room was very hot due to the 30+ degree temperatures outside, but 2 large fans were provided which helped. The balcony was lovely - huge with a great view and although facing out onto the main road and tram route outside we weren’t troubled by any noise. The hotel itself is located a couple of floors up within its building. I have seen comments about a large flight of steps leading to the elevator however, while I didn’t actually count them, I’d estimate there are around 10! As long as you don’t have significant mobility issues I’d say you would be fine, after these steps an elevator takes you up to reception. Although I can obviously only speak for the room we stayed in, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again should we return to Vienna in the future.

I was basically happy with the hotel but my needs are few. The location is great. Brilliantly connected for public transport and nice walks possible from the hotel.. Next door to the Votiv cinema; many cafes and restaurants in the vicinity. The hotel itself has a certain old-world charm and our room (on the back of the hotel as requested) was huge and quiet. A very big bathroom too. A handful of rooms are significantly bigger than most according to the fire escape plans. Rooms on the front might have a view but will be noisy as trams pass by non-stop. The shower (over the bath tub) was pretty good. The room was cleaned daily. The bed could have been more comfortable. No sign of any breakfast room and I presumed there isn't one anymore (May 2024). We rarely saw anyone on the reception desk so didn't have the chance to ask. There are several breakfast options available on the street though, cafes and bakery. I would stay again. The price was reasonable and I can't think of a better part of town to stay in. Luxury it is not but this hotel has personality.

Hotel is very dated & not suitable for disabled people due to the amount of stairs to get to the hotel. It does have a lift but that starts on the first floor. We were lucky with our room 102 after reading comments on here about dirty awful rooms! Mine was cleaned every day & the bed made & towels replaced. it was a large room with a newish looking bathroom. The bed & pillows were very comfortable. My only gripe would be the noise the trams made every morning starting at 5am until after midnight. Due to the room overlooking the main road, the whole shook when the trams arrived!! I had to ask for a Kettle & cups as nothing was provided & it would’ve been nice to have had breakfast at the hotel as we always spent an hour or more trying to find somewhere local that was open. However, the hotel is well situated for a walk into the city & the amazing transport system is right on the doorstep. Charlie’s P’s pub opposite was great for easy food & to watch the football. If i were to visit Vienna again i would maybe stay here again
