Regular visitor to the Gold Coast Star and first time visitor to the Sydney Hotel so interested to see how both faired and or differed to each other. This trip was for business and after a long year it was both a needed business trip but an opportunity to relax. In my world first impressions are king. The Gold Coast front of house staff always and without fail make you feel at home. This would be a very different review if it wasnt saved by one individual. Our limo dropped us off at the front entrance and not one of the staff offered to help with our luggage. I went to reception to check in which was very professional and smooth and on turning to my wife I noticed a staff member had approached my wife to offer assisstance. He assured my wife he would look after our luggage while she came forward to the check in desk. Enter David ( conseriege) who unknowingly at this point was the saviour of this review and also attended to our every need during our stay. He showed us to our room, gave us lots of time to explain all about the hotel and its facilities. Noe remember how I said at the Gold Coast they made us feel at home straight away? Well David not only recovered the situation but made us feel like we were in his own home and special. It was very clear his passion for the hotel and his career was above all else. His stories and recollections of all the years in the industry were fascinating. He was always there for us and the other guests during our stay and came to the rescue more than once when we were planning outings and transport. Always took time to introduce us to his other colleagues who were very professional, polite and giving of their time even though it was at the height of the Christmas madness. It was quick to realise David was popular not only with his guests but also his colleagues. The hotel itself was more modern than the Gold Coast ( which is in desperate need of some modernisation) better layout, very convienient for getting around locally via the light rail system and provide plenty of eatery options and bars. The casino was modern clean and the staff excellent and friendly. Rooms were large, well serviced, modern and had all the amenities you would expect from an establishment of this calibre. All said and done well done to David for not only saving the upfront experience but also for looking after us throughout our stay. Management please let the upfront staff know how important the upfront experience is for everyone coming through that door and not just the rice and celebrities. After all it's generally the regular punters who will keep the place alive and going not the rice and famous. I've booked in for two more stays coming up in the next couple of months so will see how the upfront experience has improved. I would consider David a friend now and not just someone to serve the whim of the individual. Well done David and hoping your on duty for our next visits.

“The Star Grand Sydney”

The Star Grand hotel receptionist Vivian Lam was very friendly and helpful. During the registration and check in She was very friendly and pleasant. She explains all the facilities and all amenities to us so that we had a very wonderful and pleasant stay.
