Comfortable, clean and maintained to a very high standard, views of the River and Marina. Across the road to a variety of shops, and convenient to two clubs with in walking distance. The friendliest and competent of staff. You couldn’t ask for more.

Massive bed I have stayed numerous times at Sails Rydges and Rydges Port Macquarie. Both are brilliant. For breaky The Boat House down stairs is all you want and more inclusive of our room. So eat up and enjoy.

Stayed overnight in an Water View suite that was obscured by the pool. Directly outside of the spa with people in it talking at all hours of the day and night. Expected for the additional price my room would be as pictured online overlooking the marina and private. I’ve stayed before but a number of years ago. The bed in our room was not as I remembered with the cloud like bed, their signature bed you could order. It was hard. There was no pillow menu like previously there had been. There was no toiletries except reusable shampoo, conditioner and body wash/soap. We had no phone in our room so couldn’t use it to order room service. Despite having a menu to order from with the direct number to dial. We had to keep walking to the bar as the app that we eventually found, from a second staff member who knew about it the first one showed up a QR code to order from that was to book the restaurant, the app didn’t have the steak on the menu. We used room service as we had a toddler and that is why we chose to stay at Sails. So we could relax and I planned to sit and overlook the Marina as that is what I paid for. Room service was not great. We had a Waygu steak that was not Waygu but was charged for it. A prawn roll that for $26 with a few side chips had 2 prawns on it cut up to make it look like it had more. Which was disappointing, I expected it full of fresh prawns, the prawns they used were frozen. And a kids meal that was supposed to come with ice cream and didn’t. I had to again go back and chase that up. Buffet breakfast was okay. I wouldn’t pay additionally for it again. Completely underrated. We have been to some fabulous buffet breakfasts. There wasn’t even a eggs station. They only had scrambled eggs that were weirdly full of too much cream it seemed. They were awful. Coffee was extra. At this price point there are expectations that were not met. My advice when staying is don’t pay extra for a water view because you may not get what you paid for and expect. A glimpse beyond the pool isn’t what I expected. And to have to sleep with white noise to negate the spa noise. Don’t order room service Don’t have the buffet breakfast unless it’s free.

Sails is one of the better places to stay in Port. I have stopped here twice on my way to Sydney and on my return to the far north coast. Each visit to Sails has been four days. Problems that are evident and very disappointing: - executive suite is tired and needs refurbishment. There is no excuse for TV that is not Smart and currently offering what I presume is the cheapest Foxtel on offer (e.g. movie selections 20-40 years old). We are in the 21st century and internet streaming should be a given. Note this was available in other, cheaper rooms. However, the most expensive room doesn’t have streaming services. Why? - room service menu is limited and uninspiring. Only offered across a few hours in the evening instead of 24 hours. I tried ordering an entree from their main restaurant menu (squid). Because it’s not on their very limited room service menu they refused. They don’t even offer a club or toasted sandwich. So not just inflexible but not accommodating and completely disappointing. Positives are: - the food was nice, but unimpressive. - location is excellent - views from the suite were lovely - staff, in the main, were warm, helpful and courteous. It has been a long time since my original visits starting in the 1990’s and a lot has changed and not for the better. However, I would still recommend a stay as long as you are aware of the restricted restaurant menu and further restricted room service menu. Also ensure you bring an iPad if you stay in the executive suites.
