I managed to get this hotel at a bargain price via Agoda, but if I hadn’t I would have been disappointed by certain aspects of the hotel. I have read disparaging reviews about the rooms but our twin room was lovely, the bath/spa huge, beds comfortable, and room was quiet. We were not provided with basic toiletries that you would receive in cheaper accommodation and the shower gel was empty. Gym was pretty good, but a number of cardio machines were out of order. Breakfast was also good,but the line up long, so leave yourself plenty of time, if you have places to be. The reception area is understaffed with only one staff member and lots of people waiting to check out when we left. The sun beds are covered in mould and there is no way I would have used one if I chose to sit by the pool. I’d stay again but only at the bargain price I was lucky to get of around $265 Australian per night including breakfast.

Our room was a one bedroom suite (158) which was spacious and again still adorned with the Versace elements with beautiful parquetry floor and marble benches. The room is on the ground floor and faces the road and it is noisy for most of the night. I would not stay in the hotel again if this room was the option. Two balconies, metres from the road, uncomfortable furniture and uncleaned. The two sliding doors are single glazed and have the flimsiest of locks. The room was fine in terms of cleanliness, had good smart TV’s and lots of channels. Furniture was comfortable but a bit dated. There were two dressing gowns in the cupboard, one looked like it was worn by Versace himself when the hotel opened it looked that old. (And was missing the sash) Small attention to detail issues; one teaspoon, no utensils with the room service. Staff around the hotel were friendly and food was value for money. This was going to be a 3 star not a 4 star rating but the room service seafood pasta and Caesar salad were so good and justified an extra star. Would I stay here again, probably, but not in a room facing the road.

Versace distanced themselves from this hotel but left all their lounges, curtains, chairs, tables and dinner wear behind, as well other things that would have created an enormous storage problem. Versace have high standards. This resort failed to meet those standards and even as now branded IMPERIAL, and owned by the Chinese, there are obvious problems. External walls in need of painting. Broken furniture (in our room) More importantly, staff problems. Check in staff who are determined to not allow guests into their rooms before 3pm, even if housekeeping advise that the room is ready. (Independently confirmed with housekeeping staff) Completely inadequate check in and check out procedures. Staff shortages are blatantly obvious. If you are rich and famous, especially rich, you might get an amazing room at this place. If you are not, you won't. Having said all that, you will be blown away by the reception area which Versace have left behind. The dining areas are outstanding. The restaurant food is absolutely delicious. The breakfast food and selection options are mind blowing. It's always important to balance the good with the bad.

Once a beautiful hotel but sadly declining, needs a refresh and the customer service was poor. Looks stunning on arrival but once we stepped inside to check in, the excitement soon dispersed. There was a huge queue to check in with just 2 staff sat at desks and a couple of fans as the aircon had broken! We stood for 25 minutes in the heat in a queue, when you normally get greeted with a welcome drink and taken to a comfortable area whilst a member of staff checks you in at most 5 star hotels.. this didn’t happen here! We gave up after 25 minutes of standing in the queue with no aircon and asked to leave our bags and come back later as there was no air! On return later, the check lady literally took the ID and gave us a room card and told us breakfast times - that was it, didn’t feel 5 star at all - no hotel map, WiFi details, gym times etc or even any conversation. The hotel is a nice hotel, lovely pool and looks luxurious when you walk in, albeit needs a freshen up as when you look closely there are lots of areas that are now tatty. The beds rooms were nice and beds really comfy, however the “free toiletries” were ridiculous! They have shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion dispensers on the wall (not Luxurious minis like you normally get) ours hadn’t been filled up so we had no shower gel or body lotion and a tiny amount in the others. There’s not even a bar of soap!! We asked for them to refill so we could shower and had to call back an hour later, as we were still waiting and no one had come! When they did fill them we didn’t realise till 2 days later then had only put a minuscule amount in so we ran out again 2 days later!! Not 5 star at all! We didn’t see the spa open at all, Infact it was in darkness and looked empty each time we passed it, we wondered if it had closed down. The gym also had a number of machines not working. Breakfast was lovely, Room service food finishes at 10pm and isn’t 24 hour. I did complain to the duty manager about our issue’s especially the aircon as it was unbearably hot and whilst they did give us a fan it was no comparison to aircon as the rooms are a decent size so the fan did little to help. The duty manager did offer a partial refund for 1 night’s accommodation and a bottle of wine. However, I would have preferred to have just had the perfect stay with great service. They know they have issues, so why not resolve them and invest the money and customer service training into it so they don’t let this lovely hotel decline even further. Sadly I would probably stay at The Sheraton or Marriott next time.
