We stayed a week in a room at the back, which we were glad of when we had a tour the next day. Staff are so helpful, location is fantastic, restaurant great, outdoor bar was perfect with live entertainment every night til 10pm, and the pool was such a great way to relax after a tour or big days. Easy walk to shops, waterfront etc.

I have just spent a week at The Cavenagh Hotel in Darwin with a friend (Room 305). Although I've eaten at pub next door - The Cav, on previous visits for their famous steaks, this was the first time I have stayed in the accommodation. I'll start my review with the reception staff who are a credit to the hotel. I/we need to thank Joy-Joy, Clare (oh, congratulations on receiving your Australian citizenship) and Mari. They are extremely easy to deal with and friendly. They are very knowledgeable in relation to touristy things to do, nightlife and cafes in the area. They made our stay even more pleasurable and thank them for all their help! My room was spacious and serviced daily. The room includes tea and coffee making facilities, a large fridge, a desk area, small wall mounted TV facing the double bed, an open shelving area to hang your clothes as well as an iron, small ironing board and a clothes airer (horse). The wall mounted air conditioner works well. The bathroom has a toilet, shower and basin. The only minor negatives for my room are; The Bathroom - needs an update to remove the rising damp on the wall next to the shower, the shower curtain does not stop the water getting onto the floor. The shower base in my room was too shallow to trap water. Perhaps a ceiling extraction fan would also help. The Main bedroom area - a room safe is definitely needed (not provided). The pool area is clean and has day beds and lounges surrounding it. The pool is solar heated and in the middle of the day we found it to be a little warm on entering. It is exposed to the sun for the majority of the day except for late afternoon and evening. Pool towels and even sunscreen is provided outside the pool fencing. On checking out, I mentioned to Mari at reception along with the potential room improvements, that a sail shade or two would be a great asset over the pool to protect us southerners of getting sunburnt. I was informed that the hotel has recently been bought out by the Woolworths Group and that there are plans for refurbishments next year during the tourist low season. The location of the Cavenagh Hotel is within the Darwin CBD and walking distance to the bar and restaurant areas of Mitchell Street. Its also a short walk to Coles and Woolworths. 10-15 minutes away by walking is the Darwin Waterfront Precinct (a must visit). Overall, the room rate, location, awesome staff and facilities make it a pleasurable place to stay. I will certainly recommend it to my family and friends.

This is a traditional hotel and pub in the heart of Darwin. The type you would expect in 90’s. Simple but adequate accommodation surrounding a pool area with new cabanas and furniture for relaxation in the afternoon. Pub attached with out door and indoor areas. Rooms basic but clean sufficient and well maintained. New individual air conditioning in each and new full sized fridge. Also a communal kitchen and laundry and baggage room which along with its central location make this hotel very handy for departing or arriving on another journey. Pub serves great food especially for carnivores and moderately priced. Live music sometimes but did not intrude on our rest. Best rooms in writers opinion; 21 & 22. Friendly staff.

“Unreal!”

Pub was fantastic! Beer garden overlooking the pool. Standard hotel room, very secure. 24 hour check in, which is handy for late flights. No ventilation in bathroom, but surprisingly no mould. Rooms serviced everyday. Walking distance to Darwin Waterfront and bus depot
