Awesome place to stay we really enjoyed the comfort of this hotel. Beds very comfortable and the pool was great. Wasn’t too far from the centre of the city can easily walk it. Staff very friendly and very helpful. Secure car parking behind locked gates.

“Mother Daughter time”

My Daughter and I loved this time together in your establishment - thanks heaps. She loved the room and the Presentation that was also held in your rooms. We had a great deal of fun and the Breakfast was great. Can't wait to do this again Thanks again

Spending some time in Adelaide was made even more enjoyable by staying at Rydges. ROOM – The accommodation was as expected, with comfortable beds and pillows and nice modern furnishings. For a room with a queen and single bed, the table/desk area was not well planned and a little cramped. Maybe the desk could have been smaller to allow 3 people to sit at the table. Also, some cups/spoons in the drawer only catered for 2 people (I obviously could have asked for more if required) and I’m sure housekeeping would have been very obliging. Suggestion for Rydges – Have a clock in the room, so guests can see the time. Also, please ensure bleach or similar is used on the sheets, as the white sheets did have some marks which didn’t look great. HOUSEKEEPING – was done daily, however I was a little confused by the $10.00 restaurant voucher offer for not requesting housekeeping. Was it towels only related or everything? I stayed in a hotel once where a card was placed on the towels asking for you to hang your used towels on the towel rail if you wanted to use them again or place them on the bathroom floor if you wanted them replaced. This was a great idea and I follow this myself when staying somewhere. At Rydges, every day except one, my towels were replaced even though still on the towel rail. Suggestion for Rydges – Maybe you could create a card re the towels like mentioned asking them to be either hung up for re-use or placed on the floor, or otherwise provide more information about the $10.00 offer, as I’m happy to make my own bed and re-use the towels for 2 or 3 days, but would still like my rubbish bin emptied etc. LOCATION – Rydges is on the corner of the city, opposite a park and feels more like a residential area, as homes are located at the rear. It’s a decent walk to anywhere (1-2 km), however we drove which made it easy. Parking was available at the hotel (I think $17.00 per day), though we didn’t book a car park and actually didn’t need it. If you plan on driving or hiring a car and want guaranteed parking (though I think it can fill up and be full), then parking is quite cheap, but we were actually able to park on the street, within 50 metres of the hotel every single day with ease (even over the holiday period). Parking was free on the street and was 1, 2 or 3 hours from 8am until 6pm, so you could easily leave by 9am or 10am, and return at 4pm etc and park outside free of charge. I suggest turning up and assessing the parking, before booking in advance, but again if you have a car and would rather it behind gates (carpark is still outside in the open) then book it. BREAKFAST – We had breakfast included in our booking, which made the deal very attractive. Buffet breakfast was great and the restaurant was nice and welcoming with friendly staff. Hot food included: bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, plenty of bread/toast varieties, a wonderful selection of fresh pastries, fresh fruit and cereals, juices and porridge, as well as a ‘make yourself’ coffee machine. Overall breakfast was very filling and delicious. Suggestion for Rydges – I didn’t know that you could separately request fried or poached eggs, as this wasn’t highlighted anywhere. It would have been nice if this was noted on a board etc, and it would have been amazing if you also made omelettes at an egg station and even pancakes, as a lot of buffets have both an egg station and also pancakes (I did see small waffles were available too, but hot pancakes would be amazing). STAFF – Staff were mostly very friendly at check-in/check-out and during the day. Suggestion for Rydges – maybe advise staff whilst walking past guests in the building to acknowledge them with a good morning/good afternoon etc, as it’s a little off-putting when you’re about to walk past housekeeping or a staff member and smile and say hello, but they are simply looking away, trying not to make eye contact. It’s nothing major, but just a way to make your guests feel extra welcomed when every staff member acknowledges you at every interaction – and it costs nothing. POOL/GYM – We only used the pool on the top floor once. It’s sort of indoor looking, with an open roof. It’s small and has a spa which is nice. If you’re someone who wants to cool down or get in some exercise it’s nice to know they have a pool for you. The gym was off to the side, which only looked about 3 x 3 metres, with a couple of bikes and a gym station. Again, it’s better than nothing if you want to get in a bit of exercise. FIRE ALARM – Some feedback for you about your procedures when an alarm goes off. As you would be aware in late December (2024), the alarm went off at about 9am. No announcements, just an alarm (I assume fire alarm). People evacuated the building – I was slightly delayed, as luck would have it I was in the shower. Upon exiting the building, we noticed crowds gathered in the back carpark for about 10 minutes before the alarm stopped and people started re-entering the building. Your alarm/evacuation procedures require urgent attention. At no time did we see any fire wardens (hard hats/high vis vests etc) and not one single announcement was made by anyone outside. We even saw restaurant staff huddled together outside. This is not good enough as we should have firstly been advised when in the building to evacuate (whether over loud speaker or fire warden), a fire warden should have been on each floor to make sure all rooms were evacuated, and most importantly, when outside someone should have been responsible to tell everyone what was going on, and when it was safe to re-enter the building. Guests then started re-entering up the fire escape to find out it was exit only and the doors were locked. We all then had to wait for lifts. A note for management to re-check your procedures if this happens again, in case it was a more serious incident. (I’m not sure what caused the alarm, though it may have been minor, or a false alarm). OVERALL – As much as I have given some criticisms here and plenty of feedback and suggestions, we really did enjoy our stay at Rydges and would definitely stay here again. My suggestions have been made with the intention that some may be implemented to only increase the experience of guests and improve the stay ability of your hotel. I base my reviews on the price and value for money and for what we paid we believe Rydges is a great value for money stay when visiting Adelaide.
