First time in Buenos Aires for a family trip. We all loved the great atmosphere of this hotel and the professionality of the staff, very very kind. Very confortable bed, great breakfast, special staff support. The best hotel in Buenos Aires, can't wait to come back!

It is always a pleasure to come back! Staff is absolutely fantastic and kind, very well prepared. The lobby bar is always a must, and of course the Rooftop on summer nights for cocktails and drinks. One of the best hotels in South America. We will be back, for sure.

The Alvear Palace is truly the grand dame of Buenos Aires hotels. When you enter the hotel it does feel like you’re entering a palace. The lobby and the public rooms are stunning. The rooms themselves, however, feel a bit dated. We stayed in one of their junior suites. Of course hotels these days use the term junior suite to apply to larger rooms rather than actual suites. This suits me just fine because I prefer one large room rather than a bedroom and a separate living room. Our room, while large and comfortable, was lacking in warmth. There were two pictures on one wall and one table lamp. I thought that a few more pictures and lamps would have created a more inviting feel. There was one USB-a jack located above the fridge and one American electrical outlet in the bathroom. Newer hotels would have more jacks and outlets and they would be located near a work desk. The bathroom was large and well equipped but the shower head was rather weak. There was a good sized closet and dresser. They still provide little plastic shampoo bottles rather than wall mounted dispensers. Breakfast is served in their Orangerie dining room. It is very opulent and the selection is substantial - although à la carte items are available for an additional charge which isn’t made clear at the tables. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. There’s a well equipped gym and spa and an indoor pool on the top floor. The hotel has an excellent location in beautiful Recoleta.

Pros and cons of Alvear Palace: Pros: excellent location, old world charm, excellent concierges (Sebastian!), outdoor space, decent gym, excellent water pressure. Staff seems very nice and helpful. Cons: as others have mentioned all below—the hotel is tired (all except for the 10th and 11th floors, where the rooms have been updated, the buffet is a bit underwhelming and feels more like a Marriott—you can’t order omelettes or anything off the menu as part of the complete breakfast package, there is a distinct “mold” and “mildew” smell as you walk off the elevators onto the floors. The hotel clearly needs to remediate this problem. As I looked up at the ceiling in the hallway leading to our room I saw mold, and the rooms are very pale in decor and comfort. As others mentioned, there are too few electric outlets (I couldn’t even plug my phone in next to my bed!) and one of our outlets stopped working entirely. There is also barely a minibar. And no coffee maker, though when we asked for one they brought it. On the sundeck remember to bring your towel or grab one from the pool on the floor above because there are no towels offered on the sundeck. Too many cruise ship people staying here which means the hotel does large group discounts. No special turndown service other than water bottles. Could be more closet storage. Prices seem very high considering that this is NOT a 5-star. If it wants to be a 5-star it must correct the above problems.
