Mugla

Beaches and historical legacy

Although it is not among the most popular sites in Turkey, for many reasons, it is worthwhile paying a visit to Mugla. Located at only 20 kilometres from the seashore, this city is filled with the cheerful and throbbing youth of thousands of students that live there all year round. Also its location offers the visitor a complete paradise of beaches where you can disconnect from stress and daily concerns for a while; have a cup of tea in one of the various coffee shops, walk around the traditional shops, historical sites and museums.

Bordering Mugla, considered the administrative capital of the province of the same name, we find the touristic cities of Bodrum, a seaside destination of enigmatic elegance that goes from the castle that crowns the city to the deep end of small whitewashed streets; Marmaris a summer retreat for British, Scandinavia and Rusian holidaymakers. An industrial tourism concept; and Fethiye , erected on the ruins of the ancient Telmeso, its beautiful Greek theatre as well as a museum will give an idea of the history of this district.

For those visitors that prefere to stay in Mugla, there are attractive sites such as the renovated bazaar filled with crafts and pastry shops, restaurants, the white 15th century Kursunlu Cami Mosque, as well as the Hamman Vakiflar, a Turkish bath built in 1258 where you can boost your energy level to explore this territory. Mugla is not very popular but it is valuable for its hidden treasures.
