Cala Ratjada is located in the northeast coast of the island and used to be a fishermen town. Nowadays it is the main trading port of Capdepera where you can find yachts and traditional fishermen boats. We recommend an excursion by boat to the neighbour island of Menorca. In spite of its great touristic development, Cala Ratjada's landscape still has genuine charm, traditions and an attractive nightlife. Enjoy the beutiful sandy beaches and small "calas", for example Cala Agulla, Cala Lliteres, Cala Moltó, Son Moll, Cala Gat, Cala Mesquida and Cala Torta.
Cala Ratjada is very busy during the summer months and is a popular destination amongst families and youngsters attracted by the wide variety of hotels, quality services and many entertainment and leisure options. It is also a top nautical destination and has excellent golf courses in the nearby village of Canyamel. For those of you who are history enthusiasts, Cala Ratjada has some unique hideouts. Can March Palace has a beautiful garden and sculptures made by renowned artists. The Canyamel Tower, from the 12th century, and the medieval Castle in Capdepera are only an example of the historic gems you will find in Cala Ratjada. In the adjacent town of Artà, only 15 km awaya, you can visit the prehistoric remains of Ses Paises, more than 3000 years old, and the famous Artà Caves.
with whom you will be speechless
Not far from the chapel of “Sant Miquel”, in the village of Campanet, nearly every year a unique hydrological phenomenon occurs. In Rainy autumns and winters, as if by magic, incredible fountains of water flow out of the ground at the Finca Gabellí, they can reach a volume of 100.00 liters per second. They are the known as “Ses Fonts Ufanes”. This interesting phenomenon, which has been classified as a Natural Monument by the local Baleares Government is as impressive as difficult to see, as this only happens three to seven times a year, when sufficient water has been accumulated in the peak of Puig Tomir and surroundings. For this reason, every time this wonder occurs, many spectators and excursionists visit the site to take photographs.

According to legend, an enormous dragon escorted the entrance of this huge cave. Extending to a length of 2.400 meters and reaching a depth of 25 metres, this cave is divided into four areas, which were inhabited in prehistoric times, and are one of the most attractive touristic sites on the island.
The peculiar rock formation, the colossal size of their stalactites and stalagmites, the blue and green shaded underground lakes and the brilliant lighting designed by Carlos Buigas, are some of the impressive features. Lake Martel, considered one of the largest underground lakes in the world, extending to a length of 177 metres, is a remarkable venue for musical and lighting shows, where musicians, sail on a boat, playing Bach, Händel and Chopin music, and to top off this marvellous experience, visitors are invited to go across the lake on a boat, guided by expert gondoliers.
During the Reconquest of Mallorca, King Jaime I found 2.000 Arabs hiding in this underground world. Known by the Mallorcans since ancient times, the Artà caves have been wreathed in myths and legends. This site has been visited by many celebrities such as Julius Verne, Victor Hugo, Alejandro Dumas and Isaac Albéniz. It has an easy access by car; you may enter the caves through a staircase located in the parking area, which was built when the Queen of Spain Isabel II visited them in 1860.
They are located in Capdepera, in a spectacular environment. The Artà Caves are surrounded by mountains overlooking the sea. During your visit which takes about 25 to 40 minutes, you will admire tall stalagmites that emerge defiant from the ground, shaping mysterious still ghostly, nearly human forms. One of the main highlights is a 22 metres high stalactite, hanging from a spectacular vault in the Queen’s Room.
After visiting the Purgatory Room, you will continue to the Hell Room, where you will attend a magnificent light and sound show. Please remember to wear adequate footwear. In summer, you can take a boat from Cala Ratjada and Font de Sa Cala to the Caves.

La Seu is undoubtedly a symbol of Mallorca and a must during your stay in Palma. Legend has it that King Jaume I departed Salou to conquer Mallorca. On the 7th September, a storm severely threatened his ships. The king begged God to rescue him from the storm and promised to build the most beautiful church in his honour when he reached the coast: Palma's cathedral.
THE CITY'S SYMBOL
Located in between the Almudaina Palace and the Episcopalian Palace, the magnificent Cathedral, also know as la Seu, stands on the site of an ancient arabic mosque. It is well known for its huge dimension, the gothic temple measures 109,40 metres, 40 metres wide and has the biggest mosaic in the world. The first kings of Mallorca were buried on this site.
GAUDÍ AND BARCELÓ, BRILLIANT CONTRIBUTIONS
The modernist artist Antonio Gaudí made some significant contributions to the Cathedral from 1904 to 1914, when he restored the interior of the Christian temple. More recently, Miquel Barceló, the Mallorcan artist, decorated "La Capilla del Santísimo" with a mural inspired by three passages from the Bible.
PARC DE LA MAR
For centuries, la Seu was the only Cathedral in the world that was reflected on the sea. This happened once in again in 1980 when the Parc de la Mar was built. The park offers a panoramic view of the Cathedral and the Palacio de la Almundaina.
During the summer months, the city council organises "Cinema a la Fresca en el Parc de la Mar", where you can see films on a giant outdoor screen with a view of the Cathedral. A unique experience.
TOUR GUIDE
The Cathedral is a place of worship. Tourist tours are not allowed during mass. On working days you can access the Cathedral through the museum located on the north side.
This castle was built near Palma in the 14th century as a a fortress and residence for the monarchy. Until 1915 the basement of this fortress was also a prison for the royalty. King Jaume III's widow and his children were imprisoned in it for a few years.
The beautiful Lonja del Mar is one the most beautiful Gothic buildings of the island. It is currently a fantastic exhibition centre. It is located in Paseo de Sagrera and the construction started in 1426 when the Merchant's Association asked architect Guillem de Sagrera to construct the building. It was later finished by architect Guillermo Vilasolar.
The surrounding area of this symbolic building is know as La Lonja. Here you can find an interesting nightlife and some of the city's most popular restaurants and hotels.

As well as its permanent collection the museum holds temporary expositions. It has a shop and Es Baluard Restaurant & Lounge, suitable for events.
DID YOU KNOW?
The ancient Baluard de Sant Pere, ancient bastion of the fortified Renaissance precinct that surrounded the city of Palma, was one of the last military quarters. The walls surrounding Palma were demolished during the 20th century urban boom, encouraged by corporate and touristic development.
Nowadays the terrace is a wonderful viewpoint, overlooking the city's promenade and port. From Es Baluard you can see the Cathedral and the original view of the unique rooftops and bell towers of the old town.

After thousands of years of erosion, the Tramuntana mountaing range meets an intense sea, creating a unique hideout in the Mallorcan coast: Sa Calobra. On the far left side you can find a natural gem: Torrent de Pareis, declared Natural Monument by the Balearic Government.
It is only 25 metres away from the beach, hidden amongst a deep, 200 metre cliff; a spectacular view. For years this Mallorcan hideout was source of inspiration to impressionist paintors that fell in love with the light and the shades of this amazing place.
This might be one of the reasons why this excursion is one of the most popular amongst tourists. The hotels and the restaurants you will find on your way do not spoil this mountainous side of Mallorca. If you decide to go to this "cala" by boat you will be welcomed by a view of spectacular cliffs.
CONCERT IN TORRENT DE PAREIS
Every year, on the first Sunday of July a unique choral concert is held. These concerts were originally promoted by the paintor Josep Coll Bardolet. Nowadays it is one of the summer's most interesting events. This canyon's incredible walls make a natural auditorium. The final product is a unique acoustic and atmosphere.
