In the north of the island, nestled in one of Madeira’s most spectacular valleys and surrounded by mountains, this picture-postcard village is dotted with typical landmarks, whitewashed houses, mountain-hugging steps, picturesque green doors, English-style windows, exuberant palm trees and flower-adorned squares.
One of its main tourist attractions are the famous Grutas de São Vicente caves, home to all sorts of surprises. A guided tour of the seven hundred metres of these caves is an absolute must, where you'll get to see otherworldly underground galleries and fissures. You'll experience once-in-a-lifetime sensations, as well as enjoying a fun and educational way of exploring the world of archaeology, history and volcanism at the very point where it's believed that Madeira was originally formed. We promise that you'll be blown away by the volcanic stalactites, lava accumulations and other volcanic remnants on a trip to the very core of the Earth.
Other attractions of this village are its stunning plantlife, its cultivated fields, its archaeological caves and its magnificent beaches with amazing waves where you can enjoy your favourite water sport. At night, meanwhile, you can soak up the ever-vibrant atmosphere.
from June 2nd to 24th, 2023
During the entire month of June, the Atlantic Festival brings numerous cultural initiatives to Madeira, taking place in various locations on the island as well as in Porto Santo.
Now in its 20th year, this event opens the doors to summer in Madeira. Every Saturday in June, the challenge is to find the best spot with a view of the city's bay, where the fireworks shows always manage to give you goosebumps.
The music is very diverse, and the fireworks never fail to surprise us, whether it's in their shape, color palette, or harmony with the accompanying melody.
