It is located at the mouth of the North Sea Canal to Amsterdam, and lies approximately 11 mi north of Haarlem.The internal capitalization in the city's spelling is because IJ is a digraph in Dutch, and is therefore sometimes considered to be a ligature, rendering it a single letter.The port of IJmuiden is the third port of the Netherlands.There is the old fishing port, the modern Marina Seaport Marina IJmuiden, an industrial port and a terminal for passenger ships and cruise ships. The fish auction is definitely worth a visit. At the head of the port to the large North sea lock, you can enjoy the beach.
