Sydney is the main port and largest community on Cape Breton Island, in Nova Scotia. The Sydney area has a rich coal mining and industrial history, the remnants of which can be found throughout the region. As the largest urban area on Cape Breton and the island’s historical capital, Sydney, Nova Scotia is the perfect mix of metropolitan charm and hospitality. The heart of Sydney is its waterfront, a great place to go for a walk and watch the ships in the harbour. At the Cape Breton Miners’ Museum visitors can learn about the island’s coal mining past, about life as a coal miner and take a fascinating tour through the Ocean Deep Colliery beneath the museum.
