Baltra (Galapagos)
Also known as South Seymour, Baltra is a small flat island located near the center of the Galápagos. It was created by geological uplift. The island is very arid and vegetation consists of salt bushes, prickly pear cactus and palo santo trees. Baltra is currently not within the boundaries of the Galapagos National Park. The Galapagos Land Iguana is the subject of an active re-introduction campaign on the island; it became extinct on Baltra in 1954.

Caleta Tagus, Isabela Island is the largest island of the Galapagos with an area of 1,790 sq mi, and length of 62 mi almost four times larger than Santa Cruz, the second largest of the archipelago. It was named after Queen Isabella of Spain. It was originally named Albemarle after the Duke of Albemarle. The island strides the equator. The third-largest human settlement of the archipelago, Puerto Villamil, is located at the south-eastern tip of the island. Other popular attractions include El Muro de las Lagrimas (a wall built by prisoners when the island was a penal colony) and the Flamingo Lagoon (with occasional pink visitors). Both are in the south of the island.

With a total land area of just 1.2 sq km, this island offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the archipelago. One of the most famous landmarks in the Galapagos can also be found on this island, Pinnacle Rock, which is among the most frequently photographed vistas of this volcanic island chain. This island is one of the few that is home to the Galapagos penguin which is the only wild penguin species to live on the equator. The green turtle is another animal that resides on the island.

Daphne Major is a volcanic island just north of Santa Cruz Island and just west of the Baltra Airport in the archipelago Colon, commonly known as the Galápagos Islands. It consists of a tuff crater, devoid of trees. Though easily accessible to most visitors to the Galápagos, the national park service has highly restricted visits to this island, and it is primarily used for scientific research. An intensive study of Darwin's finches was conducted here by biologists Peter and Rosemary Grant over a period of 20 years. They examined the behaviour and life cycles of finches, with the results strongly supporting Darwin's theory of evolution. Their efforts were documented in the Pulitzer Prize winning book The Beak of the Finch. Daphne is home to a variety of other birds including Galápagos Martins, Blue-footed Booby, Nazca Booby, Short-eared Owls, Red-billed Tropicbirds and Magnificent Frigatebirds.

It also has a varied amount of vegetation. In the near waters we can find sharks, stingrays and lobsters.
