The Daintree Natural Park and Cape Tribulation, 130 kms to the north of Cairns, are famous areas surrounded by rainforest.

Cooktown, Queensland, Australia

Cooktown is a small town located at the mouth of the Endeavour River, on Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland where James Cook beached his ship, the Endeavour, for repairs in 1770. Both the town and Mount Cook which rises up behind the town were named after James Cook. It is the northernmost town on the east coast of Australia and was founded on 25 October 1873 as a supply port for the goldfields along the Palmer River. It was called 'Cook's Town' until 1 June 1874. Attractions in Cooktown include the Cooktown Museum and the wonderful James Cook Historical Museum. There is also a good display in the window of Jackey Jackey. Another great place to visit is the Mt Cook National Park, and well worth the climb nearby Mt Cook. The walk to the top and back down again takes about 3 hours, although the views are fabulous. Cooktown is also a starting point to explore the surrounding National Parks, with a variety of different tours offered. Around the town you can cruise along the river. Heading further afield, you can visit the Black Mountain National Park, Coloured Sands and Lakefield National Park.

Over the time Darwin has grown from a pioneering enclave and small port into one of Australia´s most modern and multicultural cities. The proximity with Asia make the city an important gate from countries like Indonesia and East Timor. The city has many miles of amplitude, inmaculate beaches, including the Casuarina Beach, where you can find the markets of Mandil beach. Darwin has extense parks and gardens. Between them the Botanical gardens of George Brown Darwin. Also there are different types of fauna, like marine crocodiles.

Komodo Island (Indonesia)

Komodo is one of the 17,508 islands that compose the Republic of Indonesia. The island is particularly notable as the habitat of the Komodo dragon, the largest lizard on Earth and consequently named after the island. Komodo Island has a surface area of 390 square kilometres and a human population of over two thousand. The people of the island are descendants of former convicts who were exiled to the island and who have mixed with Bugis from Sulawesi. The people are primarily adherents of Islam but there are also Christian and Hindu congregations. Komodo is part of the Lesser Sunda chain of islands and forms part of the Komodo National Park. In addition, the island is a popular destination for diving. Administratively, it is part of the East Nusa Tenggara province.

Surabaya is Indonesia´s second-largest city with a population of over 3.1 million (5.6 million in the metropolitan area), and the capital of the province of East Java. It is located on the northern shore of eastern Java at the mouth of the Mas River and along the edge of the Madura Strait.To Indonesians, it is known as "the city of heroes" due to the importance of the Battle of Surabaya in galvanizing Indonesian and international support for Indonesian independence during the Indonesian National Revolution. Attractions in Surabaya include the historical attractions in the ´Old City´ aea. These include the Ampel Mosque and the Kong Co Kong Tik Cun Ong Temple. There are a number of good museums including the ´House of Sampoerna´ which showcases the history of the famed ´Kretek´ cigarettes. The Monumen Kapal Selam (Submarine Monument) is also an interesting attraction. Surabaya Zoo (Kebun Binatang) is a popular family attraction, as is the appealing stretch of sand better known to holidaymakers as Kenjeran Beach. The water slides at Ciputra Waterpark is fun for children and for adults, a stroll along the mouthwatering Food Street (G-Walk) is a must.

Kuala Lumpur alone has 66 shopping malls and is the retail and fashion hub for Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is a hub for cultural activities and events in Malaysia. Among the centre’s is the National Museum which is situated along the Mahameru Highway. Its collection comprises artifacts and paintings collected throughout the country.

Singapore prides itself on being a multi-racial country, and has a diverse culture despite its small size.
