In September 2018, AIDA Cruises was awarded the Gree-Controling Award 2018. The prize is awarded by the Péter Horváth Foundation. For AIDA Cruises, ecology and economy are not contradictory. Due to the long-term strategic importance of sustainability for AIDA Cruises, 'Green Controlling' is an integral part of corporate planning and control. Thus, AIDAnova is the first cruise ship that LNG can use throughout its journey. AIDAperla and AIDAprima can also use the relatively environmentally friendly LNG as an energy source during port lay times. Together with other innovative systems such as heat recovery and intelligent energy management, the emission of CO2 is reduced by 20 percent, nitrogen oxides by 80 percent and the emission of soot particles and sulfur oxides even by 100 percent. This is a big step towards emission-free cruising.
