Check in - we arrived early hours of morning and was given a sandwich which I thought was a nice touch and unexpected. We could help ourselves to hot and cold drinks too. Hotel - room was clean, had 2 single mattresses together but it was OK. Black out blinds and air conditioning meant the room was kept cool. Had a fridge. Bathroom was clean and powerful shower. We put the door hanger on when we left so requested daily bed/towel changes. Maid left cute arrangements with towels. Food - All mainly Turkish, nice, plenty of choices and all fresh including lots of salad items. Drinks - Alcohol choices were beer, vodka, gin, wines and raki. Plenty of soft drink options too Pepsi, Fanta, juices, water. Can ask for water cartons to take out with you too. Pool - 2 pools. Not enough sunbeds for guests, out first day didn't get a sunbed until 4pm. So lesson learned and had to put towel on bed next day quite early (some were saying 5am). Which is ridiculous. Staff - the waiting staff and bar staff were all so lovely and very attentive (especially the little waiter with his colour coordinated outfits). There was plenty of tables and chairs and nice places(especially outside at the front) to sit and relax with a drink. We often went for a walk on an evening after dinner along the beach front, nice places with lights to sit and have a relaxing drink, then headed back to hotel. Location - perfect 5 minutes walk from beach. Also 5 minutes walk from main shops and bars etc. Music is VERY loud on a night from bar street , until around 4am but thankfully didn't stop me sleeping but if you're a light sleeper I'd suggest ear plugs. Shops- you do get hassled as you walk by quite a lot (worse for ladies on their own I was told from other guests), not as bad if you're in a couple (man and woman). Beach - sunbeds and bars galore. We found a nice bit with a quieter bit (Mels beach bar) not obliged to buy a drink to use sunbeds but we did. They don't hassle you and are nice staff (Freddy). The sea is a bit pebbly as you walk in but then it's soft sand. Lovely and warm, calm sea. Perfect for swimming. The music tended to get louder in the afternoon from the noisier bars which put me off a bit so often headed back up to the hotel. It's close enough to head back up for lunch at hotel and then back to beach which is good. You can get the bus right outside hotel to Bodrum (30 lira each ) took about 10 minutes. Taxis right outside too. Boat trips - plenty of choice but I'd highly recommend going on one. Was such a relaxing day. Stop at 4 places to swim in the sea and included lunch (chicken nuggets pasta and salad) not a lot but was OK. Cost £20. Leave 10am and back for 4.30pm. Although I enjoyed the holiday, I don't think I would return to Gumbet. Too busy and noisy for me and I certainly wouldn't take children.
