Just returned from a week at Africana, a much needed trip away after a very difficult year. We were met off the coach by the very smiley Bell Boy who helped take our cases to the hotel entrance & he told them to leave them there. We were then greeted by other staff members who sat us down, brought us a non-alcoholic cocktail and gave us our wrist bands & key cards. The Bell Boy then took our cases and showed us to our rooms. We had 2 adjacent ground floor rooms, opposite the adult pool. The rooms were spacious, clean and the mini fridge contained bottles of water, coca-cola and sprite. We also had a kettle with coffee and tea bags. When we wanted a cuppa, we would get milk from the restaurant or pool bar. The rooms also came with miniature toilettries and a hair dryer - not a particularly powerful one but I have short hair and it did me fine. The Magico restaurant staff are all very enthusiastic and full of smiles. On our 2nd day, we tipped the waiters and were then given the same table every day, with the waiters remembering what we liked to drink and having it ready for us - for example, a wine bucket with a bottle of wine at dinner. They decorated our table with flowers one evening. I find All Inclusive buffets pretty much the same, but always find something to eat and the Magico was no exception. Certainly lots of yummy desserts! I think the bread selection at Africana was the best I'd ever seen. My son is autistic and very fussy with his food, but he always managed to find something he liked, particularly pizza and pancakes! Big shout out to Samir! We also ate at the snack bar (lovely staff again) and 2 of the ala carte restaurants, Down Town and Trattoria. The food at Trattoria was devine, we even had 2nd helpings of tiramisu! Sadly, due to the weather, we did not get to experience the water sports on offer but we did sit on the beach a few times, it was clean and over seen by security who were very observant and gave whistle warnings to guests if necessary. The enterainment team were great fun (loved Zia and Damian!) and we loved watching the shows in the amphitheatre. We also had a great time at the Bavarian evening (Oktoberfest), my husband & dad were very happy being plied with beer all evening and the games put on by the entertainment team were great fun. We also really enjoyed sitting in Wunderbar, listening to the gentleman play the piano. If you do decide to stay here, I urge you to tip the staff. They do a wonderful job and are all very nice, friendly, smiley people who deserve extra thanks. Overall, we had a very relaxing week at Africana and would highly recommend it!

It was my first visit to Tunisia and Tunis overall. Once landed and collected bags from the airport, I’ve headed out to the meet and greet area for Tui. The stand is quite small so you have to look out for it but it’s not difficult to find. The transfer provided by Tui was supposed to take about an hour and 20 minutes so I’ve decided to take a taxi from the front of the airport. You can check on Bolt that the taxi from the airport to the hotel is normally about 70 TND about £18 - obviously drivers will give you an absurd number like 200 TND but you can either negotiate it down to 100 or call one on Bolt. The check in process was seamless. Paid the foreigner tax and been helped by the bell boy to my room. The room, was clean and spacious. No complaints there. The only note to mention that the AC was not truly working it was mostly a built in fan, I have asked around and I think the main unit may have been switched off as it was not as hot for the locals. The rooms are getting turned over daily unless you ask for the maid to skip a day. The only other note I’d mention here is that the minibar (water and soft drinks) did not get replenished which in most all inclusive hotels are done during the cleaning process. I’ve used the laundry service to get shirts ironed and washed - this was quick and seamless. Restaurants and the buffet. You could tell it was the slow season as the buffet food was very repetitive. There were 2 themed nights if I remember correctly. Other than that there is a good variety of food so unless you like to eat at tapas style and try everything there would be something new to try every day. The specialty restaurants - unfortunately I only managed to try the Italian as that was the one I read the most good reviews from but I must say it was absolutely disappointing. To start off the starter the pasta with cheese was overcooked, disgusting and it had no Italian flavours at all. The pasta you can make in the buffet at the pasta station was a 100x times better than the pasta in the specialty restaurants. Then I wanted to sample two mains but I was told that was not possible so I want with the florentine style fish - well I don’t know which Florence was the chef thinking of but definitely not the one I was. The ricotta cake well it was not a ricotta cake - overall the specialty restaurant gets a 0 Servers and bar staff very very nice - after a few days that have learned my drink of choice and it was waiting for me by the time I got to the bar or while I was sitting outside. The entertainment team was top notch. They joined in for drinks to keep company. Invited me to activities and partied together until they have clocked off. They were the highlight of the trip. I also went out for a day trip with Riadh Ben Cheikh whom I found through originally through another trip advisor review and my Holiday in Tunisia a Facebook group We went Tunis medina and Sidi Bousaid. He helped negotiate prices at the medina, offered refreshments and food as well. Very respectful and helpful - I can all recommend him. Overall it was a good experience.

Where do I start. Arrived late evening. Directed to dining hall first then allocated our rooms. Which were garden/ front of hotel. The sea view / pool rooms are mainly allocated to mainly German / any other country than English guests. ( unless you pay for certain rooms ). First night no electricity so using phones to use bathroom ect. This wasn't fixed till late afternoon next day. Then we had ants in the beds. No towels another night. Then Grandson got his arm trapped in glass lift door which had been repaired 3 times in the few days we had been there and repaired again after incident. No alarm bell working so had to scream for help. It was a nightmare and luckily other guests came to help. Ice was applied and we were ushered out of the front of hotel. At first No medical assistance offered. Did eventually take us to hospital. Luckily only muscle damage. But left with marks on his arm. Pools and area around pools very small. Not alot of room for sunbathing. This applied to all pools. Food was not bad. Not alot of choice for children unless you use the outside pool side resturant. Tend to cater more for countries other than the UK. Very disappointed and certainly not worth paying over way more than other hotels which hold 4 and 5 stars. Other than the incidents the staff were friendly. But did feel hotel lacked a warm friendly feeling.
