“Beautiful”

Beautiful hotel right on the beach with swimming pools too. Friendly staff, good service. Room was lovely and spotlessly clean. Breakfast just ok could do with more choice. Beautiful hotel right on the beach with swimming pools too. Friendly staff, good service. Room was lovely and spotlessly clean. Breakfast just ok could do with more choice. Hotel is a 10 minute walk from the main road where there are lots of restaurants and shops. Our favorite place to eat was a beach restaurant 5 minutes walk from the hotel, just walk along the beach to the left. Would stay here again.

The Moracea is one of several beautiful resorts in the town of Khoa Lak, about 1 hour north of Phuket. My wife and I stayed at the Moracea for 4 nights in mid-November, ‘24. It was well-located, comfortable, and had very good facilities and service. We recommend it for a pleasant beach holiday. Koh Lok is is much smaller, quieter and less hectic than Phuket. We flew from Bangkok to Phuket and transfered to the resort from there. We opted for the pre-arranged Moracea transfer (about $50) but there are other options, including ride-shares through Grab, the “Uber” of SE Asia. There are several types of accomodations available at the Moracea, from rooms in 2-3 story buildings to individual bungalows, The resort is not for the physically challenged – it is spread out and hilly. The management does provide an electric cart service that can be pre-arranged at short notice. We chose a bungalow (#234) near the beach which was convenient to the pool and to the large open -air main restaurant. We were in the second row of bungalows back from the beach. Our unit was on the end of the row and there wasn’t a bungalow in front of us, so we had a nice view of the beach and the sea. Others would overlook the attractive pool. The bungalow was large and nicely appointed in resort style. We had windows on two sides, and the room opened onto a small deck facing the ocean. The king bed was very comfortable, and there was plenty of storage space. The a.c, was effective, though it blew toward to bed. There was also a ceiling fan which was adeuquate for much of the time during this part of the year. The bathroom was a separate area of the unit, and had a large vanity with plenty of counter space and a pleasant shower. The toilet was in its own alcove. Food in the restauarnt was good, though perhaps not outstanding, an understandable characteristic of an international resort that has to appeal to a broad range of tastes. Breakfast was a buffet with many options, spread out at several stations to avoid congestion. We ate dinner at the resort for three of our four nights and took a tuk tuk to Phu View Restaurant for the fourth. The Phu View is on a hilltop overlooking the town and the sea beyond. The food was just ok, but the view was terrific. One of the days during out stay we booked a snorkel excursion to Surin Islands. We could have booked this through the hotel, but instead we went to one of the dive shops in town. The company was Sea Star, which runs a fleet of high speed boats to the islands and has a package that includes hotel pickup and dropoff, snorkel gear, a visit to a sea gypsy village, a beach buffet lunch, and three 45-minute stops at different snorkel spots. We felt it was good value. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Moracea, and we recommend it. The only reservation we would have is for someone who might have difficulty with the hillside arrangement of the resort.

We've just returned from a week's stay at the Moracea, which was lovely, however, there are pros and cons. The resort is very hilly but there are buggies available to transport you, should you require one. Our room was 638 hibiscus Grand Deluxe, which was at the top of 2 flights of stairs, which again if you're not mobile doesn't help. We did ask to move, but they said they were full. The room was spacious, but at times noisy, as it was right next to the main road and the doors are so heavy, that people in the block just let them slam shut! Although roomy, they don't have enough wardrobe space or drawer space, which would help and the shower went hot and cold and didn't drain properly, which I reported, but was never dealt with. The pool areas are lovely and well maintained with comfortable sun loungers. Breakfast could be better, I would recommend you think twice about eating uncovered food or from the luke warm pots which aren't fully covered. The staff are lovely and friendly and always greet you with a smile and the beach is amazing. It's about a 15 minute walk (no hotel shuttle bus) into the main strip, where you'll find plenty restaurants and bars that are much cheaper than the resort. Taxi back to the hotel is 100 baht and if you want the big night market, that is further on. I recommend a taxi which costs 200 baht each way. On the whole we had a lovely time.
