We have only just returned from a 2 week stay at the Kantary and we have had the best time. Initially when we booked and then subsequently checked trip advisor, we were a bit apprehensive about some negative reviews that turned out to be totally unfounded. This is hotels is in a stunning location and the hotel is just ideal. I will break this down in sections below: Hotel Facilities & Location The hotel is ideally located between coconut beach and White Sand beach, and both are fantastic beaches. The sea is gently sloping and great for people who like the sea but aren’t confident swimmers. There is some remnants of dead coral underfoot so I personally like to wear water shoes when in the water but that’s my personal preference, many people were barefoot. The hotel isn’t huge but for me this was a bonus as it has a real personal feel to it and the Kantary has all the facilities you could need such as a decent gym , shop , laundry, towel stall, 2 x restaurants, yoga class on Wednesdays ( instructor is really good), bike rides with a guide also weekly and massages on the beach ( bookable at the resturant and very reasonable prices ) There are 3 pools (I think), one has a bar , I didn’t use this pool myself but it looked decent. There are other 2 pools are overlooking the sea and they were lovely and had been recently retiled. There are plenty of loungers , I had no problem finding a spot. The hotel grounds are pretty and well maintained . We visited late November early December 2024 and all of the trees lining the walk to the beach and though the hotel grounds were illuminated with fairy lights and it’s was so lovely. There is a nice little local resturant & bar called Ratree located just outside of the hotel ( not on the beach ) it’s easy to walk to via the reception end of the hotel and is worth a visit. You can also get a tut-tut / taxi from the restaurant owner and they offerer a Landry service. Hotel Room We stayed in a Vila (1148) this was a good location, close to the restaurant, beach and shop/laundrette. Villas are spacious, have a separate indoor sitting area with TV and kitchenette with fridge, kettle & microwave. Plenty of cups glasses plates bowels and curtly. Bedroom has a very big and comfy bed, loads of storage, plenty of hangers and full length mirror and hairdryer. Bathroom has bath with shower over and separate outdoor shower. It has a large mirror and a small magnifying mirror. Umbrellas & torch are also provided in the villa which is a nice touch and handy in the event of a downpour or night time trip to the beach. There is a little outdoor terrace to sit with a coffee in the evenings with a place to hang out your wet costumes and drop your wet beach shoes. The villas are immaculately kept, in my opinion they are a great home from home base I.e. comfortable with everything you need. Food We stayed full board , this was included when booking and to be honest we didn’t think we would eat much at the hotel as there are plenty of local restaurants and bars close by. However we found the hotel food to be extremely good quality and made more use of this than expected due to the fact it was so good ! Breakfast is a buffet and there is plenty of choice , I would think there is something for everyone. There is an egg station so you can have an omelette or eggs cooked to your liking . The coffee is good and strong and there is plenty of fresh fruit pastries and the usual for a full English. There was also salad and noodles, not quite sure what nationality eat that for breakfast, but what ever you like i expect you will be well covered for breakfast at this hotel . Lunch and dinner on half board is from a set menu. You can chose a starter, a main and pudding. The menu is the same at lunch and dinner but twice a week the dinner menu is superseded with a Thai buffet and a carvery . Both buffets are excellent. There is plenty for non meat eaters also as tofu is available (you can ask the staff to replace any meat based dishes with veg or tofu on the main menu ) I will try and add photos of the HB menus from the main restaurant. In addition to the above , there is a restaurant called similian that you can visit , it’s a European set menu (choice of 2 started mains and pudding) and is nice for a change. Overall we found the food to be of a very high quality. Providing you are not a fussy eater , I expect you will have plenty to choose from for a two week stay. Staff The staff are amazing. They worked so hard to make sure everything thing was perfect for our holiday. They really made this holiday perfect for us. A big should out to the following: Mr Som Pong -General Manager Mr Som Pong is such a gracious host. He did everything to make sure our room was perfect for our arrival and made sure that we were well looked after during our stay. Thank you from both myself and Graham for a truly wonderful holiday. To all breakfast, lunch, dinner staff who waited on us, cooked for us and cleaned up after us, thank you , you are all amazing and are a credit to your establishment. A big shout out to Mam, Beer, Kyaw & Nat (a brilliant trainee ) who were just fabulous! Kon - who kept our room mosquito free by visiting at 7pm each night with mosquito spay.
