We visit this hotel regularly and we always choose it if we are looking for a relaxing experience in a beautiful setting. It's comfortable, immaculately clean and offers good value for money. The food is exceptional, so much to choose from, beautiful grilled fish and meat and always a fresh roast with excellent salads and vegetables to accompany it. Breakfast is equally good with everything you would expect from freshly squeezed orange juice, fruits and porridge to individually prepared eggs and bacon. The tables have pristine white cloths and the restaurant has beautiful views overlooking the sea. The staff are an asset to the hotel, always helpful and courteous and they go the extra mile to make your stay special. If you want to treat yourself this is the place to go.

From walking through the doors to walking out after a week we had a great stay at the Arona Gran. Check in was seamless and the welcome drink was a nice touch. We had 2 rooms and were upgraded to pool views, the rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. House keeping was daily and efficient and the staff were very polite. Pool areas were lovely and clean, there were ample sunbeds although people did try to reserve beds. Pools were warm and the jacuzzi was a delight, watching pensioners unknowingly drowning people on beds with the jet sprays was highly amusing! Breakfast was absolutely delicious with a huge selection, English bacon was a bonus and the staff in the restaurant were very good and helpful. We had a couple of teenagers with us and they found the location a little quiet but for us it was perfect. We will definitely return minus the kids!

“Irksome charge.”

Lovely hotel, which we have visited quite a few times, however on this most recent visit I was charged 3 Eur per day for the use of the room safe. I am aware that the entertainment industry as a whole is experiencing difficult times, but this action does seem particularly petty.

Second time wife and I at Arona Gran, the first in 2018, and both times with the ‘UP’ service, and again for 11 nights, half board. On arrival we were met by the most abrupt, miserable guy whose first word was ‘passports’. No welcome or other pleasantries and it felt more like border control than hotel reception. He continued that the room was not ready and to go to the ‘UP’ terrace and we would receive a call when the room was ready. Surprisingly, about ten seconds later he said the room was now ready, confirmed that we had been there before, and we were more or less then left to ‘get on with it’. Went to the room and disappointed that the shower was in a bath and not a more modern walk-in one. Although both approaching our 70’s it was ok to get into, but not the safest, given the slippery surface and the fact that we could only use one hand to wash, grasping for ‘dear life’ with the other one on one or other of the hand rails. Maybe guests should be asked on arrival regarding the suitability of that type of shower. The room itself was good, although all we had of any sort of ‘UP’ facilities was two pairs of slippers. Reported to reception that we had no robes and they arrived later, then as the week progressed we reported no coffee machine, ‘UP’ bag or luxury toiletries. Near the end of the first week, we got the bag along with upgraded slippers and realised we had initially received standard slippers and robes. Spoke again to reception where we were advised to see the ‘UP’ rep in the morning and request the blue robes. Decided to communicate with the maid ourselves and she provided everything, including the robes, which contrary to reception were no longer blue in colour. Also tea, coffee, milk and sugar were not replenished daily. On thing we did have though was small insects in the sink. Maid sprayed but they continued to return. Were left a can of repellent by reception to deal with them when necessary. Attention to detail required, and maybe update the website to show what is included in the ‘UP’ service nowadays. Having said the above we both had a good holiday. The sleep quality in the room was excellent as was the entertainment in the evening. The buffet food in the restaurant was equally good for breakfast and evening meal, where the soups and quality of the meat were particularly excellent. Always busy, however the serving and waiting staff were always attentive and friendly. The service on the ‘UP’ terrace was equally good, as was the food. The two guys on duty at the bar worked hard considering they had the bar service and also the food display to deal with. An extra pair of hands would have definitely benefited, particularly when guests requested cocktails, as the wait for a drink was an obvious ‘bugbear’ for guests. There were plenty sun beds for most of the holiday, but our last couple of days they were pretty depleted. Don’t know if the numbers for ‘UP’ are restricted as we were aware of many non ‘UP’ guests encouraged to pay to use the facilities, which obviously reduced the availability. Busy also at the end of our holiday in the main bar on the first floor where tables were left uncleared and long wait for drinks. We were not as unfortunate though as one couple we sat near to who were fuming at the waitress as they had waited 35 minutes after ordering their drinks before they arrived. Again can’t blame the staff, just not enough of them to meet the demand which should be evident and catered for by managers. It’s a shame that at checkout the reception experience was pretty lethargic again, not as bad as arrival but just with no interest in whether we enjoyed the holiday, would want to return or even have a good journey home. This along with the apparent lack of attention to detail, and aforesaid irritants has made it unclear whether to return in the future, which is a shame as the hotel has so many good things going for it. In any case, the chaos with security on arrival at the airport, along with the anti tourism lot in Tenerife, may result in us ‘body swerving’ the island altogether and head elsewhere in the future
