“Good location”

Very good location. There’s a small shop downstairs for the basics. Our room was very spacious. The pools were nice, easy access to taxis and can walk to the beach (if you like walking). A lot of uphills and downhills. Kid friendly, lots of things to do.

Really liked the Hollywood Mirage and we got a great deal on the room at the time of booking, it's a well kept and pleasant enough complex although it being one of the older Hotels on the island it does show in some places but that kind of thing doesn't bother me particularly given how good the rates were, We had booked a 2 bedroom pool view room but at check in we were allocated a room in the Bogart block by the bottom pool which the balcony is over the road outside surrounding the hotel, we were happy enough to keep room as it was a huge 3 bedroom instead of 2 which suits us as there were 3 adults and 2 kids (another party we were with were given a similar room but asked to change which they did without any fuss) No fault in the room, spacious, showers, air con all in good working order, big balcony - no complaints Negatives with the Mirage would be the location as its at the top of cardiac hill so people with mobility issues, prams or buggies will find it difficult to even get down the hill or steps to the Passerella centre and Funchal strip, particularly in the high August heat, so keep in mind if you're not into walking much on your holidays and when ordering taxis at reception they aren't very fast arriving Pool bar service can be quite slow, 10 - 15 minute waits to order food or drink, Pool bleach will turn any white clothes yellow, Bbq night I'd avoid, entertainment was good but the food was hit and miss (the actual food cooked on the barbecue was not very good Stayed 14 nights here and would recommend to people but just to be aware that the location might not be suitable for everyone, price wise it's excellent and a nice hotel on the whole

Couldn't fault the room or reception staff. We were situated on the 5th floor of 'John Wayne' complex which doesn't overlook the pool area directly but unfortunately we were subjected to VERY loud music from about 12.30pm to 2pm whenever they were doing something in the pool. Also the music is extremely loud in the evenings too but it stops about 10:40pm. The rooms are not very soundproof where there are rooms above and you can here every scrapping of chairs and patio furtiture. If you enjoy sitting on the balcony during the day or early evening, suggest you ask for a room on the other side of the complex. This also has the best 'quietest' pool. If you want to go down to the seafront, be prepared for a very steep climb back or jump in a taxi for less than 5 euro. There are a few nice restaurants within walking distance but not any bars and the hotel bar is at the main pool so you are again subjected to very loud music! There is a nice bar in the sister hotel (Beverly Hill Heights) but that closes at 6pm! Also the onsite supermarket is very overpriced but if you come out of the complex and walk down past Bella Roma, there is a better one.
