Excellent place,but charging 12 euros a day for sun bed at the pool is beyond belief, it cost us £100 for the week in sun beds around our hotel pool. Excellent place,but charging 12 euros a day for sun bed at the pool is beyond belief, it cost us £100 for the week in sun beds around our hotel pool. I've been all round the world,go spain etc 5 times a year,never come across a complex you are staying charges £10 a day per bed round the pool, won't go back for that reason,if you had a family of 4 for a week,£200. It's mad but just greedy.

“Family friendly apartments ”

Family-friendly hotel. Don't go if you want a wild time as you need to be quiet after 12. I got told off for talking on the balcony. Pool is lovely with a life guard. You will need to pay for beds and umbrella. They cost 2 euros each, so it can be pricey if you have a large family. You can buy a week off tickets which work out slightly cheaper. Rooms vary. I stayed in a studio apartment. 2 beds, couch with large table and small coffee table. Cooker, toaster, kettle, and plenty of plates and cutlery. Shower in bathroom which had great pressure. Towels supplied. Nice sized balcony with table and 2 chairs plus drying rack. We had a metal grate on front of our door for extra security. The apartments are at the top of the hill, approximately 10 minutes to walk to the beach. There are plenty of bars and restaurants near the apartments and a couple of supermarkets

We arrived a little before check in at 4PM, but the receptionist was very helpful and allowed us to store our luggage and get changed to use the pool facilities while we waited. It has to be said that the hotel staff are, overall, very lovely. We were so impressed by how quickly they remembered us and could chat with us etc. There's only one member of staff who is an exception to this and who can occasionally come across as rude, but all-in-all we were content with the staff. When we got to our room, we were a little disappointed. We had booked a double room and believed we had air con. Unfortunately, we were given twin foldaway beds and a ceiling fan. This ended up being an oversight on our part as I looked back at the booking which said that there are no doubles in the studios, so we stuck with it. Despite this, with the beds out, we hardly had any room to get to the cupboards, so we ended up folding the frames away and just sleeping on the mattresses on the floor. That being said, the kitchenette was fully kitted out and there was even some after sun (probably left by previous guests) in the closet, which we found very useful! It would have been nice to have been supplied with some water upon arrival, or at least a container which you could use to retrieve water. Instead, we went to the shop about 5 mins walk away and bought a 5L bottle for €1.80. You can then refill the bottle at the hotel for €0.70. We were told that the towels would be changed once every 3-4 days, but there were no towel changes during our stay. Furthermore, it was sometimes challenging to open/close the door to our room. At one point, we had to speak to reception to see if they could help us. The gentleman who helped us was very friendly and sorted it out for us, along with giving us a tip on how to tackle it again next time. You could however see some kick marks on the door, showing where someone else has previously had a similar issue! We thought the idea of leaving the key on site was a brilliant one. As it's a 24 hour reception, we never had to worry about not being able to retrieve the key again either, which was a welcomed relief. To access the key, you just show the reception the card they give you when they check in (with your name and room number on), and they give you the key. It's a good system! Prior to booking, we spent a long time reading these reviews and one of the things which kept coming up was about the sunbeds. In theory, the idea of hiring the sunbeds and parasols is a good one. It should prevent the classic case of people going down to the pool at 5AM and popping a towel on a sunbed to claim it. For the first 2-3 days of our week-long stay, this worked brilliantly. We had no problem strolling down to the pool at about 10:30-11 (you can acquire sunbeds from 10AM-6PM) and getting a sunbed and parasol right by the pool. We didn't mind paying the €6 each day for 2 beds and 1 parasol while this was the case. Unfortunately this soon changed when we spotted people leaving their towels on the side of the pool from 9AM where they wanted their sunbed, or simply standing and waiting in the area they wanted their sunbed. People would even roll a parasol base to the place they wanted to be stationed as soon as they were able. One day, we went to book our usual sunbeds and parasol and were unable to book the parasol as they were all in use. The rude receptionist insisted we still pay for a parasol, despite one not being available and there being no guarantee we'd get one, because "one may become available later". Instead, we only paid for the sunbeds, €4, and had to sit in full sun while some people, who'd claimed the parasols, had seemingly walked off - sometimes back to their other hotels! The system is certainly a bit broken when it comes to this. There needs to be better policing of when the sunbeds/parasols can be hired and insistence that people cannot "claim" a spot before 10AM. It was ridiculous and we know we weren't the only guests annoyed by this too. Overall though, it was a pleasant enough stay. El Paso, the restaurant, is amazing with very high quality Mexican food. The cocktails from the bar (a jug for €18) were delicious and always freshly made with fresh fruit. We highly recommend the mojito and strawberry daiquiri. It was in a prime location for getting to/from Los Christianos with some excellent bars and restaurants very close by. Las Americas is also walkable, but we preferred to take taxis as it was more pleasant. It was about €7-8 each way.

“Disappointed”

We’ve been frequent visitors to Castle Harbour for over 12 years. Our apartment is amazing and we hire it direct from the owner so not an issue. We’ve been frequent visitors to Castle Harbour for over 12 years. Our apartment is amazing and we hire it direct from the owner so not an issue. However the smell of cannabis continuously is nauseating and ruining our holiday. Can’t sit with patio doors open as the smell is so rife. Some of the expats that live here are as friendly as a Rottweiler hired as a guard dog. When the regular lifeguard has a day off his replacements don’t enforce rules round or in the pool and I’m sorry to say we won’t be back again
