“Stunning hotel let down by poor food.”

This hotel was recommended by our local travel agent, on first impressions the hotel is stunning from the outside, we were checked in and has a room on the 5th floor level with reception. The room was spacious with a large balcony, the bathroom was strange with an open shower with no door, so no privacy, hood job we are a couple! The toilet had a sliding door. The room was cleaned every day but not to a high standard, corners in the bathroom were missed and there was hair behind the door in the toilet when we arrived. We had a standard half board room, so could only use the sunbeds round the "apparently " heated pool and 2 smaller upper areas. We found the different band system strange with separate areas like the upper balcony area with sofas and padded sunbeds only for essencia guests. Let's talk about the food which was definitely not 4 star, the breakfast was nice and plenty to choose from, but the evening was shocking, it was either cold or none left. We ended up eating out and swapping to lunch which you have to get a ticket from reception to change. We had our one meal been standard in "the one" restaurant which you had to book. Basically you get served a main at your table. You could definitely tell how the staff treat the standard people differently, the table next to us had black bands and the waiter couldn't do enough for them, we didn't even get offered deserts just the bill to sign for our drinks. The entertainment we watched a few nights which was definitely catered for the older generation, the abba tribute sounded awful and the acts were on a stage by the pool and felt so far away and there was no atmosphere. It was really poor standard for the hotel, we saw better in the Irish bar around the corner. The hotel itself is beautiful but is let down by the food and entertainment in my opinion.

By way of a thank you the hotel offers their guests one visit every 4 days to their a La carte experience at the “One” restaurant. By a la carte they actually mean your main meal only as your starter and dessert are still buffet style. However the reality falls well short of the hype. We had an 8pm reservation and as requested ordered our main on entry and were being pressed to take it before we had even finished our starter. By 8.45 the waiters were clearing away the ambient lighting and setting the tables for breakfast. By 9 feeling very uncomfortable we left a very empty restaurant clutching our half finished bottle of wine. I should stress this is not a criticism of the staff in any way as they were only following instructions. In the interest of fair play rather than post a negative review I decided to offer some face to face feedback to the guest marketing manager. Too busy to see me the following day Lauren the receptionist made me an appointment the day after. At the duly appointed time and in spite of the receptionists best efforts to find them the manger failed to show. No apologies were offered and no effort was made to contact me during my last two days at the hotel. Again in the interests of fair play all the staff we came in contact with were excellent and sadly were let down by the one person employed to promote guest relations the Guest Marketing Manger. And finally please don’t post one of your cut and paste messages “We value your feedback” Because we now know you don’t.

“Two class holiday Hotel”

First visit since refurbishment. We paid extra for a Pool view room, big mistake as the room, which was a typical good sized tourist hotel room overlooking the pool area, which was surrounded by buildings, effectivly making the whole area an amphitheatre. the stage area was on one side of the pool. The effect was to amplify the very loud music from the performers [some of whom were excellent] in the evenings until 23.00hrs. Sleep prior to this time was impossible. to the rear of the rooms was a road that seems to have delivery trucks to another building between 03.00 to 05.00 with reversing beepers waking us up. Standard rooms were not as noisy we were informed. When we checked in we were NOT informed that we had to download an App: to book sunbeds and other services so after the first week we were asked to move by another couple as we were 'on their sunbed'. We had to go to reception to be told to download the App: Room cleanliness was generally OK but some areas were missed . Staff were friendly. Food - Bland, lukewarm and repetitive. Breakfast was better including the Porridge. The Hotel is set up to be a two class hotel with some areas out of bounds to budget guests. We do not like a class system so will not be returning. The area of Costa Adeje around the hotel and the promenade has gone downhill since our last visit and is generally dirty with missing/damaged paving stones and damaged drain covers and holes in walkways where trees had once been. The area is overrun by street sellers. The Hotels should get together and demand that the 'council' should remedy and clean up the problems. The area of North Costa Adeje is so much cleaner.
