We stay at the Gran Tinerfe every summer and absolutely love it, so we decided to spend Christmas & New Year there this year too. The holiday was quite expensive but they always are over the Christmas period. We had a lovely time, as always staff are second to none always helpful, rooms cleaned on a daily basis etc ! The only heated outdoor pool is looking quite grubby now with black tiles (grout turned black) so hence i didnt go in it because it was quite off putting. In summer we go in the large pools they seem better although cracked tiles here & there. We were really disappointed with the Christmas food and entertainment, the food was really no different than any other night although they did decorate our tables and outside of the restaurant which was lovely. The entertainment was 3 women singing which was ok but the a rock band on afterwards, it just didn’t seem like Christmas Day whatsoever ! Lots of couples were saying it was a let down not Christmassy one bit ! New year’s eve was pretty much the same, apart from the grapes & fireworks at 12am we didn’t really enjoy that entertainment either. The best act out of the stay at this hotel was Freddy Mercury he was amazing !! They should have put him on for New Year’s Eve ! Considering we usually stay at the H10 Conquistador is Las Americas down the road for Christmas & New Year which is the same hotel chain their entertainment is 2nd to none, very festive i.e Nativity scenes, full singing choir in the reception area etc etc. Not a rock band ! All in all we enjoyed our holiday because we went out of the hotel most days/nights. We will return for our summer holiday but wont return to this hotel for the Christmas/New Year celebrations.

This hotel is advertised as 4 stars, but I think that is a bit generous. The welcome upon arrival is great. The staff are lovely, the entertainment team are wonderful. With regard to the dining, the food in the buffet restaurant is lovely and lots of choice for salads, great cheese station, plenty of breads etc. Fresh meat griddle area with chefs who cooked meat or fish for you while you wait. Although not a huge amount of choice if you are vegetarian or vegan as the food is never labelled with ingredients or vegetarian or vegan symbols. The desserts were also very lovely. The food can be bit repetitive, but what would you have the hotel do? They don’t throw the food out if it is perfectly good, they will try to make something with it the next day. The Italian a la carte is lovely, and AI (All inclusive) guests can dine there once a week. The hotel itself is definitely in need of redecoration and a refurb as it is in places tired and tatty. Wallpaper peeling from walls, scuffed doors and skirting boards on the room corridors. We have stayed at this hotel a few times and have now noticed cutbacks which I am convinced are going to affect the star rating of this hotel. For example, gone are the fresh bottled water either still or sparkling that was previously available at mealtimes and at the bar area. Now it is decanted into reuseable glass bottles from a water machine and brought to your table. The water can sometimes have a strange taste and most of the fizz is gone. There is absolutely no heating in the rooms which is a shame as although the weather here is good all year, in the winter it can get cold late evening or when you are getting dressed for dinner. The thermostats were there, but they had obviously been disconnected. The safe in the room now has a charge of 25 euro. On the plus side we had a nice room (not 4 star no way) but which was kept spotlessly clean by our lovely hotel room attendant. Most rooms do look out to the sea, with some having a view over the road out the front. My room itself, however, was again in need of an uplift. The shower pressure was poor, and the temperature fluctuated during busy times, i.e. before dinner. The weather is of course 90% guaranteed to be great, although in the winter the days are obviously shorter, so sunbathing between 9.30-5.30. This brings me to the pools. There are 3, 2 of which are unheated, so no one hardly using them in December as they were freezing! The third pool is heated and was a lovely temperature so gorgeous for swimming. Plenty of water aerobics and exercise classes too if you want to participate. A well-stocked gym poolside is a nice touch as its not tucked away in the hotel. Yoga classes were held in there as well. On the subject of swimming, you have to leave a 20 euro deposit to obtain a towel on arrival. I accept that they don’t want people taking the towels home etc. However, I think that the practice of charging you 1 euro to change a wet towel for a dry one, is ludicrous and petty considering the thousands spent on the holiday. All exercises and sports activities and classes are free. Having said that, the equipment for the sports and exercise is in real need of refurbishment and in some cases replacement. The uneven pool table needs the worn baize replacing, the cues were warped or broken. The dartboard was falling apart. The table tennis bats fit for the bin. They do a gala dinner for Christmas day and NYE but ask that you reserve a table for the gala entertainment. This reservation comprises you buying a bottle of drink which is then allocated to a table for 2 people. That’s all fine until you see the price list – even for AI guests, no one is exempt….wait for it, are you sitting down? a bottle of cava 45 euro, vodka or spirit 80 euro, house wine 26 euro! As there were 3 of us, we were asked to buy 2 bottles as we were expected to reserve 2 tables! Shocking and a total rip-off. Craziness! A lot of very unhappy guests. Overall, we had a wonderful time and met some lovely people. It is a shame about the negative points raised, but I have tried to be fair in my comments. We will go back but we will not be attending any more Gala nights at those prices! Especially, when we are all inclusive. .

We returned for New Year 2025 having had a great time for New Year 2024. Unfortunately this year did not live up to last year. 2024 we had a lovely junior suite on the fifth floor, this year we booked a junior suite again but it was on the eleventh floor and totally different. The room was smaller, it didn’t have a sofa in the lounge, in fact it only had one easy chair! It had a large balcony with 2 chairs and 2 sunbeds. The bathroom was also much smaller, last year we had a separate bath and shower and a double sink, this year no bath and a single sink. We asked to be moved to what we had last year but we were told there was nothing else available. The hotel decor is looking tired with wallpaper coming off the walls and damaged. Getting a lift was a problem which we knew about and it hasn’t got any better. They were short staffed in the restaurants and the service in the Mirador a la carte restaurant at lunchtime was woeful. Some of the staff they had in the restaurants and bars were inexperienced and struggled to cope. Whilst they have a good overall rating it is interesting how many reviews of 3 or less stars they have had in the last 3 months. Others are noticing a reduction in standards also. Location is great, Sun terrace great, access to sunbeds great, New Year’s Eve Dinner excellent, Italian Restaurant excellent. Unfortunately the problems we encountered means a 3 star review.

I have stayed at this hotel many times, 3 of those have been over Christmas, as some reviews state Christmas is mainly older guests. Yes men HAVE to wear long pants for dining, but summer time smart shorts are allowed. Yes this is crazy why men have to cover their legs but ladies can show theirs and some ladies a little too much of other body parts 🤷‍♀️. We stayed AI this Christmas and you are asked to book for the Christmas Day gale meal ( which was amazing!) however I queued for over an hour to book our dining table then your asked to book your table for the Evening entertainment, to our surprise you are asked to buy a bottle per table you want to reserve the only choice was wine, cava, champagne or spirits! Yes a full bottle of spirits. As I had paid many ££ for our AI stay I wasn’t happy of having to buy the cava by the bottle(€45) which I get free around the bars. Then the entertainment was a lovely girl band singing great floor fillers, then on came a rock band ( yes very good) but not appropriate for the age group, many guests left as too loud & music which you could dance too. One day our room had not been cleaned so no clean towels then at check out (12pm) the maid came in to clean and wouldn’t leave even though we had two hours left and still had items to pack. However our over all stay was very enjoyable, staff great (most). Entertainment team brilliant. Food great choice but normal lukewarm warm buffet temperatures. Drinks great choice. Good location. All in all a few minor disappointments but I’ll definitely return. I email the hotel before our visit and they are extremely good at meeting your requests ( well done ) See you soon H10.
