I am typing this review having just returned from the Arcos Playa and I must admit I have a smile on my face having just read some of the latest reviews about the place. You see we have stayed here around 7 or 8 times now over the years and we know the place and the area very well, which means we understand all the reviews be they good or bad as there is some truth in all of them. First of all the Apartments are spacious and yes they are a little outdated and the kitchens are just about good enough to make a cup of tea if you can wait for 20 minutes for the kettle to boil, but they do have a fridge which is the most important thing. Other than that there is no doubt that they are excellent value for money as they are as cheap as you can get anywhere and we appreciate that as it means we can eat out whenever we want, which we wouldn't be able to do if the room rates were high. The food is, as stated before largely average, which is not to be taken as substandard, on the contrary, the choice is quite extensive if you ask but it's food on a plate, not cordon bleu. we are happy with Bacon Egg Sausage and Chips or similar if we want to eat there or their Angus Beef burgers are definitely good and there is always a daily special such as a curry or something. I had a Sunday roast dinner this year and the Beef was excellent, tender, and juicy, and while the vegetables were of the frozen variety the meal was delicious but again basic but plentiful. We eat there as and when we want and the choice is ours no one forces us to eat there. The bar is very well stocked with both local and premium drinks and San Miguel lager and is the same price as everywhere else in the area but happy hour is between 8 and 9 pm when you can stock up on drinks for the rest of the night at almost half price if you want to. Now for the Grumpy barman lol This is Tony who is the son of the owner and he runs the bar and kitchen and yes he does come across as very grumpy and somewhat off-hand with customers but I find him very entertaining and I give him the same treatment and he never takes offense in fact he has a very sharp dry wit actually and often has me in stitches with his remarks, he is much misunderstood but I guess that's his own fault. Martin one of the other two barmen is a nice friendly chap from Bulgaria and very hard-working nothing is too much trouble for him, the other barman whose name I can pronounce but not spell (see-on) is much more down to earth but makes me laugh when I ask for a short with a mixer that he thinks only the English would order such as spiced rum with coke and he walks away saying " Aye Aye Aye" and shaking his head, this from a man who like Anise in his coffee lol. Well I could go on but my point is simple Arcos Playa is cheap and cheerful and excellent value for money but if you want all the comforts of home then be prepared to pay a lot more.
