“Best location in town. Excellent hotel.”

Just returned from a weeks stay in room 1411. This hotel was excellent- better than expected from some of these reviews. My theory is that some of the hotel has been upgraded far more than the other. It seems to be two hotels joined together. Building 1 being the one nearest the sea and the one we stayed in. Room building number starts with 1. Then floor number then room number. Paying the bit extra for a sea view is well worth it. The balconies get morning sun and afternoon shade. Our room was always clean and fresh. Comfy bed. Free safe, small fridge, kettle and tea and coffee and actual decent sized mugs! Good free wifi throughout the hotel and grounds. Good quality beach towels too. Shower gel and hand wash supplied. Towels changed daily if required. Large balcony overlooking pretty beach - the best we saw locally. Front of the hotel is in town, the back gates lead directly to the beach. It’s been built on the rocky sides of the beach so there are quite a few steps if you have mobility issues. Pool is at the front with sunbeds and a snack bar. That’s where the entertainment happens too. I never saw all the sunbeds occupied maybe because the beach is so close. There’s a lawned area facing the beach that we preferred to lounge on. Again no trouble getting beds. Two restaurants which stagger breakfast opening times. The larger restaurant on the 2nd floor has better choices. The smaller on the 1st floor has a lovely outdoor terrace overlooking the beach. Surprised this terrace only opens for meals, it has a bar next to it. We would’ve used it as a bar. The official bar in reception is hardly used at all. Hotel are missing a trick there. Fabulous breakfasts with lots of choice. Great porridge! Cold meats, cheese, fruits, cereals, yoghurts, salad, cooked - everything. I used the gym on the first floor. Not listed in the lift. The indoor pool is very small. Outdoor one is a decent length of about 20m. Husband said it was at least warmer than the icy sea! Many fitness classes offered but only advertised on the BLU app. Yoga too. We walked quite a bit locally to the other side of the marina. Decided we’d chosen the best hotel location- some are a trek into town. Prices in Cala D’Or are at UK levels surprisingly- it’s not cheap. €4.80 for a large beer same for a glass of wine. However we’ve found that in Spain generally this year. Even Benidorm not much cheaper. However there is a cheap and cheerful cafe over the road from the hotel. The town was very quiet in the daytime. Most restaurants only opened at 7pm. There’s a large café that seemed to be preparing to open and seems attached to the hotel at the front. The best local bars/ snack bars are on the beach. About 70% guests are German, some Scandinavian and the rest UK. All staff were friendly and helpful. In summary the best location for Cala D’Or. An excellent hotel.

Would of given 5 star if the rooms were of 4 star standard but sadly they’re not, the rooms have been made smaller than they were when the Rocador was independent and they are in need of modernisation to bring them to the 4 star standard rooms now offer, simple things like plug sockets with USB ports, decent towels rather hard old towels that were no longer white, a shower unit you can actually bend over in without banging your head or bum, missing complimentary toiletries other than the standard shower gel on the wall and the one by sink that needed replacing as the print was coming off the bottle, there was 1 bottle of water in the room on arrival we expected to get a fresh one every day as we have this in tui 4 star hotels before but this wasn’t the case, they also charge extra to use the Bali beds which you also had to book which again we have had free in other 4 star hotels, the jacuzzi/whirlpool next the indoor was closed up so couldn’t use it, the Bar down by the beautiful terrace that over looked wasn’t open so we had to go up the steps through the hotel to the pool bar to get drinks and back through and down the steps again to sit there and enjoy the view, so the Tui Blu experience we were expecting didn’t really live up to expectations, we also had a tour booked through tui app and wasn’t informed that the pick up time had been changed so missed out on a tour which then caused a lot of stress and and a whole day of having to go backwards and forwards to the rep to sort out the refund. The main pool isn’t heated so for early in the season it was really cold and quite uncomfortable to stay in, the sea was actually warmer, the balcony we had was very small with 2 chairs and a little table no room for an umbrella or sun beds, we only had breakfast which was a great selection but the hot buffet was luke warm, and not enough sausages as they were taken very quickly and not replaced with more, again being in other 4 star tui hotels we have had a hot breakfast cooked to order so was surprised to see it was buffet although you could have an omelette cooked to order if you wanted one for breakfast, on the upside the beds are very comfortable and the pillows were great, The Actual location of the hotel is superb it is directly on Cala gran cove with direct access onto the beach, the main entrance leads out onto the street were there is a couple of bars and a very good restaurant on the corner and supermarket opposite, you are also minutes away from the main square lots of lovely boutique shops, bars and restaurants, we would stay at this hotel again purely for its location and the fact the hotel was clean with comfy beds now that we know what to expect which is basically 3 star standard from the rooms

It’s dated, we were put in a disabled room which is fine but it was just grim feeling, rusty taps, shower didn’t work, just a big open grungy room for bathroom. Like it hadn’t been used in years. Cig burns in sheets. Office ceiling tiles. Room right next to where entertainment was but luckily that finished early - could hear everyone passing the door. Beds were comfy in fairness. Bar in reception is nice but super quiet even though we were told hotel was full. Maybe could make it cosier by not have lights on full blast. The staff were lovely and hard working, especially the staff in the breakfast room. Thought breakfast was okay, usual buffet fare. Pool was nice, indoor one was scruffy sadly it rained for the 3 days we were there. We did beg to move rooms - which they weren’t going to do but we didn’t budge. Was much better hence 3 stars. TUI you need to invest or make it a budget hotel, and refurbish the disabled room!
