A lovely small peaceful hotel located a short walk from the restaurants and shops, 10 - 15 minutes to the nearest beach and a 20 minute stroll to the harbour, all the staff were lovely and friendly the breakfast had something for everyone from cooked food, fresh fruit, meats & cheese as well as hot and cold drinks, a small pool was adequate for the size of the hotel my wife and I had a really nice stay and would certainly book again if in Cala D’Or

We stayed four nights in late July. Family of three. Hotel is approx 100 metres from the main strip and beach and harbour about a 5 minute walk. The pool/sun terrace area: This was lovely, with open bar area that looks directly onto pool. Pool was clean and the toilets/shower area next to it were spotless. Sunbeds were plentiful, my only gripe was that there were not enough parasols in the sunbed area. Bar was not overpriced and they had a happy hour 4.30 - 5.30 every day. Carlos made a great Mojito also. The room: our room was clean, and cleaner called and made up room every day. Shower was a large walk-in on ground level and bathroom also really clean and well sized. The room was a bit small, we just about fitted the three of us in there, my 11 year old was on a pullout bed. I found the beds quite hard. We stayed bed and breakfast and there was a good selection of fresh tasty food on the buffet. This ranged from bacon and egg to continental food and savouries. Overall: a good value hotel, ideally located with friendly staff.

Our experience staying at Hotel D'Or was quite a mixed bag. Upon checking-in, Carlos gave us a quick tour of the hotel and showed us our room (room 400 - skip to the end to find out why this became a huge issue). The room was acceptably clean, albeit not immaculate, it was also quite small (for 3 people) but was fairly functional. As others have noted, we did have ants in the room for the first couple of days, but Carlos did rectify that. The room came with few luxuries and most things were paid extras (such as a kettle, which Carlos kindly gave us for free in the aftermath of the ant-issue), although we did have a working safe to use. Our room wasn't particularly private, to access the room we had to cross the terraces of multiple other rooms (although something we had never experienced before, we did get used to it). We were also overlooked slightly by an adjacent building, but we weren't in the room much during the day, so it wasn't really an issue for us. The pool and bar area was relatively small but we found it ideal for us. We had our 4 year-old with us and he loved it. It was never particularly over-crowded and it had a great vibe throughout most of the day. It's worth noting that there will likely be non-residents also enjoying the pool area, but we found no issue with this, and actually felt it enhanced the overall atmosphere. Carlos makes great cocktails and we'd recommend his sangria! To try and add some efficiency to our mornings, we paid for the breakfast option and found it to be fine. It was probably what we would have expected, with just enough to please everyone. The occasional smoked salmon was a particular highlight.   We found the staff to be mostly pleasant, we always enjoyed chatting to Carlos, Juan was very helpful, and the dark haired girl with glasses (apologies, we didn't manage to note her name) was always polite. Juan and his wife also performed some music on one of the nights, they were very good and we thoroughly enjoyed it! As the hotel is so small, there is only limited staff support throughout the night, so any issues should be raised during normal hours, where possible. The location of the hotel is both good and POTENTIALLY bad. We found it was perfect for the majority of activities with our 4 year-old, such as walking to the beach, exploring the marina, or heading out for food on an evening (as he'd sometimes burn-out and require carrying back to the hotel). Now, you can't have all of these positives without some negatives. Sadly, we had a huge issue throughout our stay, and the hotel just couldn't comprehend how to fix it for us. As mentioned above, we were allocated room 400. The problem with room 400 is that it's the closest room to the square, and practically opposite a nightclub. This may have been tolerable in normal circumstances, but we also had a local fiesta to contend with, which was primarily located at said-square. With the fiesta came temporary toilets / urinals, which were located on the small public road next to our room. With the temporary toilets came general congregation and noise. All of this, when mixed with fireworks (often set-off outside of our room), caused significant lack of sleep for us all. A tired 4 year-old causes a domino-effect which impacted the the remainder of our family holiday. We had 3 nights of our holiday impacted by these events, with the worst night consisting of unbelievable noise disturbances until after 6am. Now, it's important to be clear that we don't blame the hotel for the fiesta, but we do blame the hotel for the lack of action taken, and not moving us to the quieter side of the hotel when we politely requested it. Instead, we were told that there are no available rooms (on multiple occasions), yet more guests arrived at the hotel over the next couple of days, and were allocated rooms in quieter areas. We have read other reviews where people have also requested a room change, only to be told that they can't have one as other guests have selected specific rooms. We don't generally believe this, we understand the booking system automatically allocates rooms, but we're certain this can be overridden with intervention. We believe it would have been possible to relocate us, the hotel just opted not to. In our honest opinion, 400 block should not have been saleable during this period, not only because of the overall noise disruption, but also because of the adjacent toilets which had quite a distinct smell after a few days in the Majorcan heat, a smell which you could definitely smell from our room's terrace. There clearly needs to be some agreement / compensation between the government and the hotel during this period, to ensure guests are not caught in the same net that we were. The hotel did give us a few free drinks and some free fries for our son (which we appreciated), which we assume was a form of compensation, but it was all in vain come the end of the holiday when our final night was also disturbed (after being told the fiesta had finished), and we travelled home tired. Would we stay at Hotel D'Or again? Probably not, which is a shame as it's a pleasant hotel. Sadly, the lack of proactive approach to remedying our significant issue is unforgiveable, and in truth, it was an easy fix. We were torn with what rating to allocate the hotel, as our holiday was partially spoiled, but the blame doesn't entirely reside with the hotel itself. Given the noted positives, supplemented by the lovely characters such as Carlos and Juan, we feel a 3 is fair. If the hotel management had been more proactive in assisting us with the external issues, we would almost certainly have given a 4.
