I have just returned from this hotel as a solo traveller. For the price, you can't complain. I emailed the hotel prior to my stay and asked for a sea view room if possible and that's what they gave me. The staff were very friendly. They got taxis for me when I asked and were all very friendly. They had saved me some food from the evening buffet ad my flight was late getting in. I went to reception one evening as there was a large bug in my room (came in from the balcony being open) and I asked if they could help me get rid of it and they sent someone straight away. Location wise; I thought it was great. This was my 4th time to the island but usually stay further down the strip. I can't comment on the pool as I went to the beach every day but that was just personal choice. I really enjoyed my stay and I will be going back later in the year.

“June 2024.”

Basic apartments situated between Matagorda and the start of the Puerto Del Carmen strip. Apartment was clean and near a supermarket and a handful of restaurants. Basic apartments situated between Matagorda and the start of the Puerto Del Carmen strip. Apartment was clean and near a supermarket and a handful of restaurants. Pool area clean and had lots of sun beds. €17 for a taxi to the airport. Towels replaced every 2nd day. Reception staff friendly and efficient. Apartment comfortable enough with a TV but could be doing with a make over however that is reflected in the price. Overall we had an enjoyable problem free week away.

“Too many cons”

Hotel Room: We originally had a one bedroom apartment that sleeps 3. When checking in the gentleman behind the reception desk upgraded us to a self catering apartment which had two bedrooms and slept 5. He did this free of charge which was very much appreciated and a great start to the holiday. The apartment was massive, dated furniture but we were okay with that. Comfy very large beds, lack of pillows but cleaning staff we’re happy to provide some more. We had two balcony’s one which was huge!! Lovely sea and pool view. The apartment comes with hob, microwave, fridge, kettle and the usual glasses, pots and pans etc. The plumbing was awful and seemed a common theme with the other guests. The water in the shower didn’t drain quick enough so you could only manage a five min shower before the shower tray would overflow. The toilet struggles to flush any toilet paper and you have to hold the flush for a good min to ensure it flushed. Food: We were half board, and for some reason we assumed it would be breakfast and lunch but in fact it was breakfast and evening meals. Breakfast: Good selection of pastries, fruit, cold meats, scrambled/boiled/fried eggs, bacon or sausages, cereal, juice, toast and sweet treats. The coffee was awful. Evening meal: Sad to say the evening food was absolutely awful, mostly fish and rice with the odd chicken or pork dish, chips. We tried it the first night and vowed never to go back, it was that bad, and a lot of other guests had the same opinion. We did go back in a few nights later but walked straight back out. I strongly suggest just having the breakfast included if you book. Pool: Small pool but lovely temperature and always enough sunbeds to go around. There are a lot of rules dotted around the pool and the life guard made sure that he enforced those rules as often as he could, he was very much the party pooper. No balls or floats unless it’s in the child’s shallow pool, even if the larger pool was completely empty. The life guard did not watch at all times, he would just pop his head around every now and then to tell people off. There are tiles around the outside of the pool edge to warn no diving and those tiles have no grip on them whatsoever. A few guests slipped and fell on those tiles and the lifeguard just watched and shook his head, no checks to find out if they were okay whatsoever. Staff: A real mixed bag of staff here. The reception staff were all male and 3 were absolutely lovely and 2 extremely rude and not approachable at all. The female member of staff working in the restaurant was absolutely lovely, I wish I caught her name so I could mention her. Always full of smiles and said good morning etc. The majority of the other staff were male and they were polite enough but don’t engage at all. The oldest of the restaurant male staff was extremely rude and shouts at staff if they open a window. The female bar staff Raquel was absolutely lovely, our favourite member of staff. Nothing was too much trouble for her, always smiling, always chatty and this hotel needs more staff like her!! The gentleman that worked behind the bar was rude and unapproachable. All in all we enjoyed our stay but the cons outnumbered the pros and we would probably book a different hotel if we came back.

There are hood and bad points about this hotel. We stayed for the first time in June 2024. The bad: the room, although spacious had no air conditioning. The wind in Lanza saved us as we just lived with the windows open. There was bags of room though. The real downside for us, was the food. The signage of what was what, was poor and as a veggie, that made me very nervous and the options seemed limited. Breakfast was more dependable with hot and cold options. On the good side: the location of the hotel is *outstanding* - only five minutes to the beach and a variety of restaurants and a well-stocked supermarket and pharmacist within the complex. The pool area was great and really well maintained. Throughout we were impressed by the lack of litter and rubbish. The most impressive element of the Cost Mar, by some distance was their Reception team: a group of friendly , knowledgeable and lovely staff willing to answer any daft question. I'd rate them 100/10 if I could. It's a beautiful part of the world. Our first visit and we were so impressed by the friendliness of everyone we met and the overall chilled vibe of the resort. For a water lover, you couldn't get a better location. On reflection writing this, our score needs to be 4/5.
