I would not listen to the scare mongers if you are looking to book at san marcial. This was my first holiday and our apartment was clean and spacious with all the basic things you need. We had no air con but wasn’t an issue and was fitted before we left. Requested a first floor room and was happy they gave us one. Staff was friendly and very helpful when booking taxis etc. Yes it’s not a 5* place but a holiday is what you make it. People set there expectations far too high. I highly reccomend staying at san marcial :)

My Partner & I have just got back from San Marcial Apartments in Matagorda Lanzarote. It was my 50th Birthday Treat. We had a lovely 14 nights stay at the apartments. And have never been to Lanzarote before. It was fun being near the Airport. As my partner is a bit of a plane spotter lol. I read some of the reviews before we booked. A few were negative. Which did concern me a bit. So I emailed the apartments and asked for a nice room, with either a pool view or sea. And upper leveI. I Can not fault them. As we got a lovely room with both views. And on the upper level. Room 108. Whilst we were there we was informed by various people, the apartments were having a refurbishment. Onsite and in May 60 workers were coming in to give the apartments a big overhall. Which does need doing. We shall be back prob next year to see how it all looks, if they are taking guests in of course lol. There has been alot of complaints about the apartments. And some very unhappy guests. Partly I presume is because new management have just took over, and things are up in the air and disorganised. which is understandable. Once everything has settled down and new routines for the staff are under way then things will improve. I am sure it will be a even more lovely place to stay. Thank you to San Marcial Apartments xx See You Soon

Great start to our holiday, allocated as requested an apartment that 'got the afternoon sun'. Reception staff friendly and accommodating. The apartment was very spacious inside but, as others have mentioned, we're very tired and in need of serious updating. Kitchen equipment was basic - plenty of cutlery and crockery but no wine glasses. A bread/chopping board would have been useful too. Was surprised there were no cleaning items (ie dishcloth/sponge, tea towel) so popped to Reception requesting same. The receptionist said this would be dealt with by housekeeping the next day. This never happened so bought our own. In fact, we saw no cleaners for the whole week (apart from outside communal areas) so, despite a number of requests to reception, no towel changes all week. And the one allocated toilet roll wouldn't quite have done the job for three adults for a week!! There was no door on the freezer section of the small fridge so food in fridge got really cold - our eggs froze completely! The beds were awful. Really uncomfortable mattresses and the metal base was like sleeping on a camp bed. Every time I moved in the night I woke up from the squeaking springs!!! There were no English TV channels and no WiFi. The pool area is inviting and well laid out but the sunbeds have all seen better days, sagging in the middle. This didn't stop the sunbed hoggers doing a dawn raid on the best spots however and leaving towels on beds sometimes for many hours without being used. I appreciate of course this is common practice in many places - doesn't make it right though! The pool was really, really cold. I got ankle deep and that was it! A few brave souls used the pool but it was mainly empty. The lifeguard on duty had very little to do!! I appreciate these apartments are competitively priced and I did enjoy my holiday - Matagorda is a great little resort. We will definitely return to Matagorda but would we come back to San Marcial? Sadly, I think not.

We stayed at the San Marcial for two weeks and on the whole we had a good holiday due to the location and the friendly staff. However, the apartments are in desperate need of some TLC. Here’s what we felt was the good and the not so good: Good: Reasonable priced apartments. Location is great. A few minutes walk to the sea front and close to bars, restaurants and shops. Apartment interiors are huge and have all the basic needs. Balconies are great with nice views. Our apartment had a refurbished bathroom which was nice. Staff are friendly. Supermarket next door which was handy. Not so Good: Apartments are very run down and are badly in need of refurbishment. Peeling paint and dirty walls. Metal camp beds that are noisy and uncomfortable. Pool bar/restaurant closed for the duration of our stay. No wifi. No towel change or cleaning for the first four days. Only one towel change/bin empty in a full week. We had to empty our own bins down the road. Apartments could be cleaner. We put our cases under the bed and they were filthy when we pulled them back out. There was a mention that the apartments have recently been bought over and there was some minor building work going on which was noisy at times. Hopefully the new owners will invest some money to bring the apartments up to a decent standard. I am surprised that both TUI and Jet2 are selling holidays to these apartments given their current state.
