After booking I read some of the reviews and wondered what we were going to. Most of the reviews are fairly negative but we were pleasantly surprised. Friendly reception team who spoke excellent English and managed to book us in early. The site has the feel of a whitewashed village and was spotlessly clean (we didn't see a single cockroach anywhere during our stay). Yes, some areas have older sunbeds but where newer ones have been provided, they are in good condition. It's hardly surprising there are no parasols to provide shade as it can get very windy (and they wouldn't stand a chance!). I don't understand why people moan about water being cold either - you wouldn't expect the pools to be heated - so blame the weather. Our room was upper floor (as requested) in Plaza Verde and were were delighted with it. Good size accommodation, probably the most comfortable sofa & armchair we've ever had on a holiday. Yes, some of the furniture is a bit dated but it is certainly still functional. Bed was a double and really comfortable. Kitchen was well appointed with kettle, toaster, microwave, full cooker, full height fridge/freezer and dishwasher (that we didn't use being only 2 of us. Balcony area was a reasonable size for 2 but would be a bit tight for 4 (especially a the one sunbed took up quite a bit of the space). We even had sea views. Our room was in full sun in the afternoon so we had to ask reception for a parasol - which was delivered and put up by the maintenance team within an hour. The room was serviced daily and clean towels & bed linen every 2-3 days. There were a few minor maintenance issues (noisy ceiling fan in bedroom, loose drawer front in kitchen, bedroom window and patio door would benefit from a squirt of WD40) but nothing that would adversely affect our enjoyment. The onsite shop is on the pricey side and we only used it for convenience (primarily ice) as the resort supermarkets are only about 5 minutes walk away and offer much better value of money. The Lido bar is quite pricey too (9 euros for 2 bottled beers) so we only used it once, whilst waiting for our room to become available. I guess you'd expect on-site services to be more expensive as you're paying for the convenience. For a budget holiday , our expectations were exceeded and we'd certainly recommend this hotel complex - just be realistic with your own expectations.

“Disappointing”

Been to Costa Teguise numerous times for family holidays and stayed in a few different hotels but unfortunately Sands beach was our least favourite and we won’t be returning. Been to Costa Teguise numerous times for family holidays and stayed in a few different hotels but unfortunately Sands beach was our least favourite and we won’t be returning. The apartments are very dated but also need repairs/improvements for safety reasons. A lick of paint just won’t cut it. If you want shade around the pools there are no parasols at all…except for a handful at the lido pool, but you have to pay 6ruros to use the beds there. Sunbeds around the other pools are very tatty, freyed and some very sunken or ripped..not in the slightest bit comfortable! The locals don’t like you using the Olympic pool and insist on you wearing a swimming cap. There was some confusion over whether all guests were allowed to sunbathe at the private beach..as those that had payed for a beach front room claimed that it was for their use only. The staff there were mostly polite, one young man in particular at reception was very helpful but another man called fernando was very rude to both myself and partner and we heard other guests complain about him too. He seemed happy enough to help the locals but when we asked him to call a taxi for us he said he was too busy, pointed to a number and told us to ring it ourself. The number didn’t work 🙄 when I went back and told him the number didn’t work and asked him again to ring a taxi he put his hand up to me and said “I’m not talking to you..I’m very busy, I told you” he eventually did ring me a taxi but clearly under duress. We avoided him like the plague for the rest of the holiday and wouldn’t go to reception if he was on. Cleaners came daily to take rubbish, mop floors and change towels but they were fighting a losing really because it was impossible to keep the rooms clean with the red dust from the construction site next door, that was being blown everywhere. all the towels were stained orange, the patio furniture, windows and floors were covered in it. A shame. Could be a really nice place.
