“Simple but great stay”

We were a group of 31 people and loved our stay here. The rooms are basic but clean and beds are VERY comfy. It would be great to have a kettle in the room but nothing a trip to the breakfast bar won't solve. The food was delicious and something there for everyone. The breakfast was especially good. The staff were friendly and helpful and the views were lovely.

“Excellent Short Break”

We visited as a family of 3 with a 5 year old in June and were feeling slightly apprehensive due to some of the more recent reviews, but had a wonderful time. The resort is very large on a hillside so there are lots of steps but the buggy service is fantastic, turning up within 5 minutes each time we needed it, which was a lot as my wife had a broken foot. Food was outstanding, especially the seafood, and it was always easy to get drinks at the bars and restaurant. The Euros had started and the staff put on every game for guests to watch. It is mainly Dutch guests but there was a mix of nationalities, all very pleasant. We hope to return in the future.

“Well worth a visit.”

Great hotel, excellent food and drink offerings and lovely staff too, all very obliging. Everywhere very clean and tidy. Great hotel, excellent food and drink offerings and lovely staff too, all very obliging. Everywhere very clean and tidy. The only downside is the location, set up on a hillside, so not great for the less mobile, although buggy transport around the complex is available. No tea and coffee in the room for a morning cuppa which would be a bonus. If you want to be right by the sea then this place isn’t for you. There are a couple of small beaches about a 15 minute walk away and a taxi ride down to San An is around €10 if you don’t want to take the #1 bus that stops outside.

“Overall a good stay but some safety concerns and a bad first impression.”

We arrived on the Sunday evening at 10:30pm, we were welcomed well by the reception staff and given our wrist bands and key card. The hotel is situated on a hillside and you do need to walk uphill to access a lot of the buildings, fortunately for us we were situated on one of the lower room blocks so the walk wasn’t arduous. We did however drag our bags up to the room situated on the first floor of the block. Upon arriving at the room the key card would not open the door, so I left my partner outside the room and walked back to the reception to inform them that we could not access the room. The reception desk then issued us with a second key card which had “reset” written on it and informed me to first swipe the reset card and then the room card. After walking back up to the room, I did as instructed but to no avail, the room would still not open. So me and my partner then took our bags back to reception to inform them of the issue. We were asked to leave our bags in the reception area and a maintenance technician would look at the issue (great, after a long journey we can’t access our room and have no idea when we will be able to do so) so we went to the batboy take a drink and watch the entertainment (karaoke and the sound quality was awful, with crackling coming from the microphone which was a shame as there was some genuinely decent singers participating). After an hour we returned to the reception to see if we can access the room, all good, the tech has checked the room and the door is now working. The disappointing part here is there was no offer to take the bags up to the room for us after the inconvenience but okay, we can survive and do it all over again. We arrive at the room, unpacked our bags, checked the time and it’s now 11:45pm, so I tell my partner, I’ll run down to the bar and grab us a drink each before the bar shuts. Arrived at the bar at 11:50pm and to my surprise the advertised time of 12:00am for the bar to close is not correct, the bar was closed, shutters down and the staff are cleaning up. There was however a large group of Dutch tourists who appeared to be very drunk playing music from their own Bluetooth speaker and one woman in the group was stood on a high planter where a tree was growing with her top pulled down and her breasts exposed shaking them up and down with the staff seemingly ignoring what was going on. In all honesty it was quite funny but equally not what I’d expect to see in a hotel. This was all within the first 1.5 hours of arriving at the hotel so my first impressions were not the best. The next day we went for breakfast and honestly, the buffet breakfast was great, a very large selection of food that I would imagine caters for most people. The staff were friendly and helpful, I can’t fault them at all for that. That day we stayed at the hotel, used all three of the adult pools which were all very good although I did think the pool was a little understaffed with life guards. There is one lifeguard covering four pools and two of those I doubt from his vantage point he could see. I got chatting to another couple there who had been several times previously and told me that a few years back a child had drowned in the deepest pool (2.65m if I remember correctly), how true that is I don’t know but I can honestly see how that could potentially happen. Overall the stay was good, the entertainment was 50/50, we saw two very good acts, the magic show and a band, the previous two were a bit mediocre, a circus show and a solo singer and of course the karaoke which would have been pretty okay if the sound quality from the microphone was good. The rooms are kept immaculate, the cleaning team were awesome and I can only give credit for the overall cleanliness of the hotel. In all we had a good stay and enjoyed the visit. The first impressions weren’t the best but that did fade as the facilities and staff were overall very good. A note to management, please review the pool safety, lots of adults taking young and small children into the deep pool wearing arm bands and flotation rings, I don’t think any small child in those pools is appropriate and the parents have their part to play of course but I do think there should be some sort of enforcement and signage from the staff to prevent that, if a child was to tip over in their floating ring there could be some very serious consequences as a result. I think for adults, it’s a great place to stay, as a parent I wouldn’t take my eyes off my children and I wouldn’t allow them into the deeper pools either. Only for the negative issues I saw, I’d have given this resort a 5/5 but the initial arrival and the safety concerns makes me mark the Marble Stella Maris as a 3/5.
