Staying at the Sandy Beach Hotel in Gran Canaria was almost too relaxing. The staff were so attentive, it felt like they could read my mind—always asking if I needed anything before I even had the chance to think about it. Honestly, it left me wondering if they ever take a break! The room? So spacious and clean, I couldn’t even find an excuse to complain. The bed was far too comfortable, and the blackout curtains were so effective that I slept through the sunrise every single day. ! And the food—well, it was overwhelming in the best way. The buffet had such an incredible variety that I spent more time deciding what to eat than actually eating. The themed dinners? Delicious, but now I’ll forever compare every meal to what I had there. Even the pool area was too perfect. The loungers were so plentiful that I didn’t have the usual holiday battle to grab a spot. And the pool was so pristine, I felt bad for disturbing it by actually swimming in it. If you enjoy impeccable service, flawless facilities, and food so good it ruins you for anything else, then this is the place for you. But be warned—it might just set the bar too high for every other hotel.

“Third visit to a favourite hotel”

This is my third visit to the Sandy Beach Hotel. Other reviewers mention receiving a drink on arrival which did not happen in my case. I requested a sunny room, but was given a room towards the eastern end of the hotel, near the fire escape. The November sun did not reach my balcony until about 4, so I spent some mornings sunbathing on the roof terraces via the fire escape. The "superior" room was a decent size square room and a small dressing room. The use of the safe has to be paid for. There is a kettle, but you have to fill out a form if you want tea and coffee supplies, which I did and supplies were delivered later in the day. There was a complimentary small bottle of water and a small bottle of wine. There is a useful list of TV channels (see photo) and plenty of English speaking channels (BBC, etc). There was a smell of drains in the bathroom and occasionally elsewhere. The restaurant is mainly outside. On my first night I joined the queue to wait for a table. I was seated alongside a German couple. Having been before, I expected the tightly packed seating, but it's not something I feel entirely comfortable with. As I left the restaurant, I looked inside the interior dining room and there were a few people there, with plenty of empty tables. Thereafter I always sat inside as it was more spacious with brighter lighting. The low hanging lights were constantly being hit. In the morning, the sunshine flooded in. I entered the restaurant from the fire escape end and no queue. I observed the queue at the other end and wondered why guests are not given the option to sit inside? On a couple of evenings there was heavy rain, so the interior dining room was busy, with extra tables set up in the bar area. Rubber mats and towels were laid down outside which you had to step carefully over to reach the buffet. The food seemed to cater for the German palate. I enjoyed the food, but there wasn't a lot of choice, compared to other hotels I have been to. Salt and pepper pots were in short supply and guests were having to get up to find them! The "Available/Occupied" cards on the tables seemed to work well. The evening entertainment was low key with one or two singers in the bar which had a capacity of about 80 seats. There is a small library hidden away in the Reception area. According to some Facebook posts, the hotel will be refurbished in 2026. As some reviewers have commented, the hotel is a little dated, but the current furnishings are absolutely fine and have a traditional look. I think the buffet area could do with some reorganisation to improve the flow. I hope that the refurbishment doesn't take away the distinctiveness of the hotel and I may return in 2027 to give my verdict! During my stay, most guests were retired German speaking couples. , Finally, I fell in love with the new receptionist (see photo)!

1. Hotel is in a good location but is more like a 3 star plus hotel, definitely not 4 star. 2. The hotel has ZERO wow factor, everything feels dark and old. 3. The terrace restaurant layout was AWFUL, felt like sitting in a cave, tables too close together, had to use a torch to read the wine list. My tip is use the inside restaurant. 4. Food was good. Sometimes felt like a bun fight to get to the buffet. 5. The restaurant roof leaked during a rain storm, staff looked embarrassed. 6. The Christmas day gala dinner was a disaster, two sittings just does not work; we hadn't eaten anything at 9pm. 7. The staff were friendly except one female who shows guests to their tables, slim, dark hair - she needs to learn about customer service and etiquette. 8. We had a 'superior' room - was quite nice, clean, but suffered re noise due to proximity to the laundry room, noise from 06:30am every day. 9. The pillows in the room were awful, need changing. 10. The room maids were lovely. 11. The pool area was nice, plenty of sun beds. Will we return? No Will we recommend? No
