This was our 2nd stay at the Altamar,normally use Eden Apartments but book here instead if we can't get in there or it is priced too high. As with pretty much all the hotels in the area you need decent Mobility as it is very hilly,Altamar does have a lift but sometimes it's just so much quicker to use the stairs. I cannot comment on the food as we go self catering in Gran Canaria as there is so much choice of restaurants and Bars at good prices i really would not want to be stuck in the hotel for mealtimes.Much the same as last time we stayed it's a nice enough hotel,has picturesque views of the Atlantic,hotel staff all nice enough,some of the onsite Spar shop staff on the other hand could use some customer service training but all in all its a good place to stay,we are back again April 2025. The hotel offers a free bus service down to the bottom which is a bonus,its about 7 euro each way in a taxi,rooms have ceiling fans but it looks like aircon is being installed.

Enjoyed a great stay at the Altamar. Please ignore the moaners on here!! I was apprehensive having read the horror stories but should have known better! Our room was perfectly clean. Adequate space for 2 adults and two teenagers for a week. Amazing weather means the large balcony is extra living space. Sea views are spectacular. Staff here were all very friendly and helpful - including in the onsite Spar shop. Perhaps ignorant customers receive a more hostile response?! The pool areas were clean and maintenance staff were working hard to keep everywhere looking clean and tidy. There were always sunbeds available - no 7am reserving wars! Maid service took place 4 days out of seven. The majority of the guests were Dutch when we were there. We were self catering but had a look in the restaurant and it looked to be exactly the same as any 3* hotel,it is possible to upgrade. Breakfast was 11 euros for adults and 6 for kids. There are lots of steps on site and the Altamar is at the very top of the hill overlooking Puerto Rico. We walked up and down into the town and to Amadores beach. Not for the feint hearted but definitely not as bad as it looks. Taxis are 5-6 euros and the hotel offers a free bus into the resort centre and to Amadores in the morning and late afternoon. The cable car style lift was fully functional. Not sure why people moan about this either? This style of lift is common in the area due to the hotels being built into steep cliff faces. The A/C was not working/functional yet as newly installed but as it was hot we hired a unit through reception which worked great. If you want 5* go elsewhere and pay a lot more money. If you want a decent 3* hotel don't hesitate to book the Altamar!

This was our second visit of the year and everything was great apart from two incidents. 1. On 9th September, myself and others were in the Pool when a guest shouted at us all to get out because there was vomit in the pool. She then informed the lifeguard who removed the issue with a net and threw it behind a hedge. The pool was not cordoned off and no announcement was made to stop people getting into the pool which should have had the filters cleaned and water chlorinated. 2. The Entertainment Manager announced over the speaker, on 10 October that all the alcoholic Brits had now gone home. We were very offended by that remark as there were a few of us still there and personally, we considered that a racist remark.

“Rated 3.5 stars. Need entertainment programme”

Whish I could give half stars as this would have been rated 3.5 stars. Really, the standard of this hotel for a 3 star hotel is high . The hotel is perched on a hillside overlooking the sea, so you get great views. So expect steps, a lot of them, but there is a good lift service to reach each floo… more

Whish I could give half stars as this would have been rated 3.5 stars. Really, the standard of this hotel for a 3 star hotel is high . The hotel is perched on a hillside overlooking the sea, so you get great views. So expect steps, a lot of them, but there is a good lift service to reach each floor. The beach is a bit of a trek 1 to 1.5 miles although you can see it from the hotel, would reccomend taxi back up the hill or the free bus service provided by the hotel, it runs every hour. GOOD POINTS. +We found the hotel to be clean and tidy.( and we are fussy ) +Restaurant area has lovely views of the sea whilst dining and is relaxing with good food choice. Best lamb I have ever tasted. +Restaurant food is open all day although minimised out of meal times. +Rooms are very spacious and have very good size balcony with lounges and tables that overlook beautiful views of the sea. ( we also had kitchen facilities in our room). +Reception is modern , relaxing and inviting with lovely seating areas overlooking the sea POINTS WHY NOT A 4 STAR. - Queues at meal times. When the hotel is busy . There needs to be better organisation at the main serving area.This can easily be rectified by rearranging the food serving areas so everyone is not queuing as you enter the restaurant. - Not in use drinks dispensers in the restaurant. Please either fix them , or fill them. - Entertainment is poor. Day time entertainment is pool aerobics or killer pool at 14:00 ( very poor) and bingo at 16:00 , i know they try but every day is the same . This need a re-think on the programme. Need an injection of life into this.( wheres the yoga , darts, water polo. - Evening entertainment is a 21:00 in the restaurant on the restaurant floor amongst the tables. Shows are poor. Need to increase the budget for this. O, also a resident performer on his organ each night,,, Yawn,,, went to bed most nights at 9:30 and we love to stay up and watch entertainment with a few drinks. - staff are accommodating apart from a few. The grumpy old bar man was'nt nice to deal with. restaurant staff need to smile a little bit more. - Need water bottles available, (we have payed all inclusive) - Gym facilities poor.
