“Fantastic all rounder hotel”

We usually stay in Gold by Marina, however Jet2 informed us they were closed for renovations, so we had been moved to the Sol Barbacán. We were a bit concerned as we felt it would be hard to compete. However on arrival, we were delighted with the facilities on offer. A spacious one bed apartment with all the kitchen gadgets you need, a massive balcony with two sun beds, there was nothing we could fault. The jacuzzi was massive, we loved it too. The rooms were spotless, the breakfast was excellent, as was the lunch which was very reasonably priced. If only breakfast was served a little later, we could get a better lie in. Staff were lovely and always had a smile. Would definitely go back and would highly recommend.

We spent a week at this hotel in May and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are spacious enough and the beds were comfortable. We stayed in the main hotel, but others in our group stayed in one of the bungalows near the pool area. The bungalow was in the perfect spot for relaxing in the day or evening and the children (aged 8-11) were able to easily find their way to and from the pool. Both pools are clean and warm with very friendly lifeguards and the daily aqua fit is fun for all. The children loved the kids entertainers who were great fun and always friendly and inclusive. The magic carpet in the pool was a highlight for them and they enjoyed the various competitions and activities laid on during the day (shout out to Allen, Max and Roberto!) The evening entertainment was good and we were pleased there was something on every night. The mini disco was a bit babyish for our kids but they went along anyway as they liked the animation team so much. We thought some more ‘pop’ music or dance music in the evenings around the bar between 9pm and 9.30pm/10pm before the entertainment started would be perfect as the girls just wanted to have a little dance. This is a family friendly hotel, but a lot of the guests are quite a bit older than family age, so if you’re looking for somewhere with lots of children, you might not find it here, but that could equally be the time of year, but I imagine in the height of summer, there would be more children. The food in the restaurant was good, the evening meals were probably better than the breakfasts. I was disappointed there weren’t many delicious spanish cooked tomatoes on offer with the eggs and bacon and the fresh orange juice was insanely sweet, but other than that it had something for everyone and the kids loved the pancakes every day! Maspalomas beach and waterfront area nearby are worth a visit and the sea and sand at Anfi was beautiful. All in all, we had a great stay and would recommend this hotel!

Spent 10 days here at the end of April with husband and teenage son. The hotel is lovely, rooms are very clean and well equipped, although felt like the main bedroom could've done with a mirror and dresser. Most importantly, the animation staff were awesome. We were the only English family at this time, and they made sure we were included in everything. Special shout out to Max, who went above and beyond. The hotel is well situated, lots of great restaurants within easy reach. The beach was a good 10-15 minute walk though, downhill there uphill on the way back.
