“Brilliant hotel”

We stayed at Sol Barbacán for our recent holiday to Gran Canaria and couldn't find fault with the hotel. Upon arrival (which was late!) we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, booked in quickly and efficiently with all the information needed and was in our room quickly. We stayed in a 1 bed apartment, room 363, which was so spacious, with a large bedroom, separate lounge and kitchen area, shower bathroom and large balcony with 2x sunloungers and table with chairs overlooking the pool. The room had everything you needed provided, including sunbed towels. We stayed half board, and were not disappointed by the variety of food offered. Breakfast was usual mix of continental and cooked, cereals, fruit etc with a chef preparing fresh omlettes. Evening options were varied, my partner often enjoyed trying all the meat options, whereas I was happy with the cold salads. There isn't a vast amount of options on hot food, but enough to find something, and again a cook often preparing fresh meats. There is a la carte available for a price, but we didn't try this. Bar prices were very reasonable, service always with a smile. The bar on the front of the hotel often had entertainment in the evening, and they seemed to have entertainment to suit all guests. There's also a gym, mini golf, animation etc. The hotel grounds are kept very clean, no sunbed wars in the morning around the main pool, a very calm area to relax in the afternoon. The hotel itself is a very short walk to the yumbo centrum, other bars, and about a 25 min walk to the beach or €4 in a cab. Overall we felt very welcome in this hotel. The staff were superb and we would return in a heartbeat!

“Sol Barbacan - best hotel in Playa Del Ingles by a country mile!”

Just back from ten days at the Sol Barbacan and have to say - what a great place! We had a party of 6 which consisted of two hotel rooms and two bungalows. On arrival one of the hotel rooms got upgraded to a bungalow immediately - which more than pleased my friend! With regards to the hotel it is probably the cleanest most well-kept place I've been to in years. The staff are exceptional and I can't fault anything anywhere. With regards to location you can't have better in Playa Del Ingles - only a couple of minutes walk to the Yumbo centre where you'll find all sorts of bars and restaurants. If you're British and you like a nice mug of tea to wake up to make sure you bring your own mug - the tea cups are just that and you will be constantly making a brew as you only get a couple of sips out of them! The animation team are fantastic - always up for a laugh and there's always something going on somewhere whether it's bikes in the pool or a quiz in the afternoon. Well done Sol Barbacan - this is my second trip to this hotel and won't be my last!

just had a brilliant week at Sol Barbacán, we stayed in a one bed apartment which was well equipped with good air con and balcony had 2 sun beds as well as table and chairs. Pool towels are provided and can be changed daily at no charge. Staff were all so helpful and the animation team work super hard all day every day keeping the vibes high. They are so friendly and always full of energy. We ate lunch at the island pool restaurant which was lovely. The evening entertainment was also enjoyable as was the atmosphere in the bar. It’s noisy and busy outside the hotel but you hear none of this once in, it was very quiet at night and we slept well. We spent our days at the island pool where there was a very attentive kind life guard. Absolutely no sun bed wars and plenty beds free at any time of the day. We would definitely return and recommend to others - a really lovely hotel made even better by the attentive staff

“Sun and animation team saved the day!!”

First night :- We arrived 10pm on our first night- after a long delayed flight. First night :- We arrived 10pm on our first night- after a long delayed flight. Receptionist told us if we get to the a la carte by 11pm we can still order food as kitchen shuts 11pm... we (myself and my 10 yr old) hurried down to the restaurant at 10.40pm to be greeted by an extremely grumpy old man who said we have 5 mins to order, he waved his arms around and couldn't care less that it was late and we were hungry or delayed or out first day. Such a rude old man. He then threw some menus down on a table whereupon another grumpy old man said we have 5 mins - they basically did not want us to eat there or to serve us and couldn't care less it was our first night and we were tired hungry guests! Never experienced this especially with a child. We travel a lot and usually in such scenarios hotels are sympathetic and put some food together for you or the 5star we stayed at in Pollentia Majorca which opened the kitchen to make my daughter a meal?! So the first impression was awful! Sunbed:- Also they say you can't reserve but people still do. One day a lady reserved 7 sun beds from pool opening 10am to 11.15am... the lifeguard or staff said they can't do anything and can’t move peoples things.. So what's the point in making a thing of the no reservation rule! However there were still plenty in October half term. Pool:- plenty choice and clean. Room:- asked for ground floor didn’t get one. Bed lined only changed once in the week and that’s incl the bed sheet and cover and pillows - not quite 4 star!! Hair in the bath upon arrival. Minimal cleaning really. Noisy rooms and can hear housekeeping who come early. The ONLY saving grace was the amazing day time entertainment team of Alen Max Roberto who tried hard to get people involved in the various activities and created a vibe round the pool; very friendly and remember your names. They made the hotel lively and if we returned it’s only for them!! Lots to do there for kids and adults. Fairly good location €3 to playa del I or €10 to Maspalomas. Evening shows :- pretty lame from what we saw, but most people just go out!
