Like stepping back in time. Fabulous experience. Very Spanish/Canarian which we loved. The breakfasts and Sunday Jazz brunch food selections were amazing. The staff were lovely and very enthusiastic and proud of their hotel.

Where to start, I loved this beautiful, magical hotel. The one word I keep coming back to is Exceptional..... in every way, from the entrance, to the team that run the hotel, the bedroom, my Terrace, the facilities, the breakfasting area, the attention to detail, robes, slippers, coffee machine, brilliant beds, pillows, and top cover. The hotel is spotless and in a lovely area, the Doramas Park is something else where Turtles, Black Swans, Coy live side by side, the Park is cleaned daily by a lovely lady who feeds the cats. We liked to go for drinks down on the ground floor early evening to hear the Pianist and when drinks are brought to you its done with a touch of class. Apart from Breakfast in the hotel we never ate as my fussy husband is vegetarian so we walked to local places, if you are a good walker its 25 mins one way to the old down and exactly the same to the beach, buses 1 or 2 will take you, costs Euro 1.40 each way. The pool area is beautiful and quiet you're by a school infact the entire area has schools all around but its nice and not an inconvenience, there's no pool music or animation team so you can immerse yourself in a good book, have a swim, snack and then get ready for sundowners. I had a massage by the wonderful Carmen, it was the best I've ever had, a full firm body massage worth the 80 Euros, bliss. Not forgetting the Roof top DJ set over the weekend, I loved it. I'd like to thank all the team for being so lovely to us and a shout out to the hotel group for the lovely Tartan inspired uniforms a nod to the Scottish Architect who created this wonderful place back in the 19th Century. Lastly the Breakfast team, lead from the front a brilliant group of people who are up early, look smart and engage in English which isn't their first language, it was really nice to go down for breakfast each morning and be looked after, Nuira (Nora) was so nice the first person we met in the team and who used to work in Edinburgh she picked up our Scottish accents immediately and we reminisced. Will we return, oh aye we cannae wait.

“BED BUG BITES for three nights in a row!!”

I stayed at the Santa Catalina Hotel with five other people from 22-26 June and I returned to the UK having suffered a severe case of bed bug bites. I want to mention up front that there were members of the staff who were extremely welcoming and hospitable towards us and we felt at the receiving end of tremendously good customer service from people like the PR manager Manuel and a receptionist called Paula. I would highly commend their professionalism and customer service; we would not have enjoyed as much as we did without their help. However, the incident with the bed bugs is unacceptable. I was staying in room 149 which has two single beds. My friend who was occupying the room fortunately did not get bitten but for the 3 nights I was there I suffered repeatedly. I couldn’t sleep and was getting fresh bites each night. Unfortunately, I did not suspect a case of bed bugs at the time but rather thought I had an allergy to some food I had eaten. I did not recognise bed bug bites since I had never experienced them before. When I returned to the UK and consulted my doctor, I got a note confirming it was bed bug bites. I have evidence by way of the doctor’s note and pictures which I am sending with this note. There were 6 of us in total and we paid over 2000 euros for our 3-night stay in this five-star hotel. My holiday with my friends was completely ruined. I could not enjoy the facilities at the hotel or our visit to the beach or any of the activities. I was in constant pain and discomfort due to the itchiness not to mention the red bites all over my arms, the front and back of the neck, on my forehead as well as the lower back. It felt terrible and I am extremely disappointed in the amenities and the maintenance at the hotel. I’d like to point out a lack of due diligence and care in the cleaning and fumigation of the hotel rooms. The calibre of this hotel is such that the rooms should be treated with insect repellents and bedding changed and washed as per regulations for bed bugs not to occur. Moreover, we were mortified to find cockroaches in two of the three rooms we had been using, as well as, during breakfast on the porch outside. While outdoors is understandable and to be expected we most certainly do not expect cockroaches in our bedroom and bathroom. Should appropriate measures not be taken to ensure that all kinds of insects are kept out of the living quarters for the guests to enjoy their time? Unfortunately, I received no response from the hotel when I emailed them. They didn't treat my issue seriously which means that they are not doing anything towards making sure there are no bugs or insects in the rooms in the first place. Its terrible for a 5-star hotel to have this level of service.
