Great choice of pools - no problem finding a sun bed by one of the pools any time of the day. Staff all very friendly and excellent. We will return.

I wrote a glowing report of Salobre in April, so I’m slightly disappointed having to write about our niggles this time round. We booked directly through the hotel including our flights and taxi transfer. I’m now assuming this is via an external company rather than the actual front desk of the hotel. We arrived and the room wasn’t ready which is fair enough but we were kind of hoping it would be ready as everything was booked directly through the hotel website so we assumed they’d know our arrival time. On the website once you’ve booked you have the opportunity to choose your room. Having been before we knew that the 9th and 11th floor had the best views, so we chose a room - 1136 with a king sized bed on the side near the top floor pool as it’s easier to get to from that side. A few days after choosing the room we had an email to confirm it was ours, there is a small print that states if they can’t honour this then you will be given a room exactly the same. Our bags were just left in the lobby area, again our assumption was like other hotels they’d be put in a room out of sight but no. We were telephoned when our room was ready after been given 1138 rather than 1136 upon check in but were assured it was a better room and had a king sized bed. We get to the room and the keycard didn’t work. So back we go all the way down again (which is a long way from the top floor), eventually get it sorted and open the door to find it is one half of a junior suite (the rooms with connecting doors) and two single beds pushed together. Nothing resembling what I’d asked for at all. So the policy of giving you exactly the same as requested fell down here. Back to reception again, where I spoke to the reception manager who initially was unhelpful and said she’d get the bed sorted into a king by putting a sheet over it- I had to argue the point that this is does not make a king sized bed and that type of arrangement is not comfortable. It was only when I said I’d stayed before did she seem to then want to rectify the situation. She offered another room but on the other side looking at the building work. I accepted this as we really didn’t want a room with 2 single beds. Although it was disappointing, as it made getting to the top floor harder due to the hotel layout. It just felt like the hotel had no idea we had ever stayed before, I assumed booking directly with the hotel would make things more special somehow. We were given a free day on the Balinese beds for our ‘loyal’ custom after the room fiasco but we didn’t use it in the end. We ended up being locked out as the app wouldn’t open the door as it’s supposed to. My husband had to go dripping wet down to reception in his trunks/towel. The door key on the app didn’t work allt all on two separate phones. This all happened on our first day, my husband was really annoyed so went to speak to Eva the guest experience manager at her table in the lobby but she’d gone for the day by the time he went down. By the next morning and after dinner and breakfast we’d calmed down enough about the situation just to get on with it. It was nice to be greeted by Alvoir and Maria in the S Club bar like old friends and the lovely girl whose name I have forgotten who was promoted in June to a supervisor in the restaurant she’s really lovely and a credit to Salobre, always smiling and making guests feel really welcome. We also had to ask about the use of the spa as it wasn’t made clear we could use this for 3hrs for free. We only found out by talking to other guests. It’s a shame we had these niggles as I had such a lovely time in April without issue unlike this time and it’s what made me go back. It wouldn’t put me off and I’m still very surprised by people complaining about the building work noise as it’s extremely unnoticeable. I’m just not sure we will be rushing back next year. Or maybe I’ll go back to booking through Jet2..

I returned to Salobre having visited around 5 years ago, and it was a mixed trip.... Cons The main issue was unhelpful staff. Everything seemed to be too difficult. Staff gave conflicting information, were curt, and not welcoming. I felt judged as a solo traveller at check-in with front desk staff commenting on me being alone, which I didn't think was professional. There was also a really heavy attempt at upselling an "upgraded" room. Upgrade room upon arrival was, in fact, a twin when I had booked a king and no different in terms of size just on a higher floor. Initially, tried to charge me an extra €250 euros despite being a return visitor. Very odd. I declined and kept my original room, but felt staff member dismissive and rude when I did (even on following days and check out when I had to encounter them). Late check out options are also limited despite the hotel not being anywhere near full. Conflicting info at the front desk on the shuttle, unclear check out processes. You can have a "courtesy room" still not sure if for an hour or half an hour on the day you leave (just used the spa facilities instead in the end due to conflicting info and needing to book in advance) Overcharged at check out and also tried to claim payment hadn't gone through despite me showing them on banking app it had. Didn't feel a great experience before leaving. So certainly ask to check your bill. Communications via email with hotel before arrival also confused and responses were really slow. As others have said there are hygiene issues with flies and insects on open food. Need more covers on buffet items or insect repellent to try to prevent this. Pool areas could do with upgrade but is wear and tear. Balcony door to room was damaged and wind whistled through really loudly all night unless left ajar, which felt a safety concern given low balcony onto pool as a solo traveller. Was annoying. Hotel is in the middle of nowhere, so be prepared to travel if you want to escape the resort. Spar "onsite shop" is around a 30-minute round trip walk, which could be difficult when hot. So be aware if you have mobility issues. No access other than foot (or if have a car). Ask your cab to stop on the way or be prepared to carry heavy items. Water is 1 x 750ml bottle a day in room otherwise is charged. Nowhere to get water other than bars or in paid spa. It is chargeable at dinner too (€3 per person) App they encourage you to download is hit and miss. Some useful info on there. They recommend you download and use the virtual room key on the app. Is a gimmick and given faulty of WiFi in resort meant I was twice locked out of my room of an evening and had to go to front desk to resolve. Just get a physical key and avoid the stress. WiFi is mixed bag, often intermittent so to be aware if reliant on it for travel. Tv in the room has bbc 1, 2, itv, itv 2, 3 and itv 4 UK channels as well as English language news. Says it is a smart tv but impossible to connect to phone and stream. Netflix button on remote also doesn't link to it, so no way to watch content other than limited live tv. Range of alternative language channels also available. There are no USB charging ports, but there are European plug sockets next to the bed, so bring an adapter. Fully clear glass partition between the shower and the bedroom, with no screen. Showering completely visible from the bed... so get used to getting friendly with your fellow traveller. Not ideal for travel with friends! Provided toiletries are not 5 star standard. All in 1 shampoo and body wash and a conditioner. So make sure you bring your own toiletries along. There are steps everywhere. Again if have mobility issues be aware. Small lifts are available but it is a large spread out resort so be prepared to walk from reception and restaurants a fair distance to rooms and pools. Have to pay to use balanese beds on 11th floor. Staff were rude to guests and even tried to charge some people the day rate (of €40) to use it for 45 minutes before the pool closed, despite 5 or 6 being empty, which was pretty ridiculous. Pros The hotel itself is nice, area is well laid out. It felt quiet and tranquil in November. There is a wide selection of food options for half board. Slightly odd "theme" nights as others have said but big range. Would certainly recommend half board at least if you don't have a car as is nowhere walkable to eat near by. There is a free daily shuttle at various times into Maspalomas if you want to visit town. The beds are massive and really comfortable. I think all rooms have a shower and a bath which was a bonus. There is a hairdryer, robes, slippers and iron and ironing board in room. There is also a fridge in the room to bring own snacks and drinks to have in your room if you wish. The spa was nice and treatments and access reasonable. Daily spa access for hotel guests is €25 per person for 3hrs (morning 11.30-2.30 or afternoon 3.30-6.30) but no one checked or asked anyone to leave. There is a sauna, steam room, relaxation area, pool with jets and relaxation beds. Comfy loungers (some with umbrellas for shade) around the relaxing pool and full changing facilities. A 7 day / week pass is €75 but since had a 5 day stay, spoke to spa staff who offered a discounted rate of €55 for daily use during my stay. You can also order food and bar drinks to the spa pool, via buttons on each of the lounger tables, which was a great bonus. There is also complimentary water and tea making facilities (range of herbal teas and breakfast teas). Range of treatments available - prices as you would expect for European hotel. I paid €76 for a 50 minute massage. Ranges from €50 euros for short treatments upto longer packages for €190+. Nicely appointed, air conditioned treatments rooms. Certainly worth booking in advance on arrival day (as slots book up quickly). Again confusing comms with staff ahead of arrival so easier to do as soon as you get there rather than via email with hotel. You can also use the spa facilities on day of check out for the day, which was a bonus. There is full changing facilities with showers, hairdryers towels and lockers in the changing rooms which meant it was great for check out day so I could freshen up before flight. It's a peaceful resort on the whole. I personally wasn't affected by the construction noise as I had a room on the 8th floor, and you couldn't hear it from the spa. But there is clearly construction in the valley, so I appreciate this may be different for different guests. The golf course is huge (and challenging), and there were a lot of golfers staying here. Meant the main areas were very quiet in the daytime when you weren't playing golf. Bar prices are as standard. Large glass of wine around €7 - €10, soft drinks €3.50, small beer €4 etc. I think I would return for a few days since I know what to expect and if prices were still reasonable, which this trip was for what was included. However, I certainly book for a relaxed, remote resort break and not a busy tourist escape. It was a nice break to the sun, and the weather really delivered at 31⁰ in November, a really welcome break from the cold and grey of the UK.

Staff in the dining room also seemed grumpy and unfriendly. - Food - some things were nice but when I got fresh fish cooked in front of me in the evenings it was always dry and overcooked. The quality of the natural yogurt at breakfast was not good either, and there was no lactose free milk (only soya and oat milk). When I asked a female staff member about this, she 'snapped' at me to ask a waiter. - Was unable to get a spa treatment at all - was fully booked throughout my week there. Disappointing. I would not stay here again. I much preferred Seaside Palm Beach 5-star hotel as they offer you an A la Carte menu as part of full-board, the staff are friendlier, and it is right on the beach.
