I was sceptical when I heard this hotel was closing for a refurb a couple of days after our stay, but if I hadn't have known I wouldn't have been able to tell as standards were so high. Our stay at Melia was the first abroad holiday for our children (5 and 6) and our first in 13 years. It did not disappoint one bit. The building was beautiful, especially when viewed from the beach; it looks like a little oasis. The marble throughout made it feel really special and it was kept incredibly clean. Reception has the Gabi Bar which has deep settees and canopied beds to lounge in. The rooms where just what we needed, beautifully cleaned and comfortable. I took some antibac wipes with me just in case but even the draws etc. were spotless. Lots of lovely little toiletries too for that extra touch. The restaurant buffets were incredible. They boasted fruit, salads, cheeses and breads at every meal, plus so many hot and cold options. Our favourite at breakfast was the pancakes. There were always a variety of gorgeous fish and meat options and safer things for a plainer palette like chips, pastas and pizzas. Some nights there were specials or themes like sushi and seafood. Desserts also hit the spot and the kids loved finding a chocolate fountain and a little sweetie bar! If that wasn't enough there was also a 'snack bar' open throughout the day, which was another monsterous buffet! The drinks included were also delicous and full of variety; beer on tap and mojitos galore, plus juices and slushies for the kids! The staff in the hotel couldn't do enough. All were very attentive and kind. We were aware the hotel was closing for refurb and were allowed to check out slightly later. Our days were spent by the pools or by the beach. The kids pool has two little slides and provided hours of entertainment for the kids. It was also next to a little park which they swapped between. They went to kids club once, which they also liked. The location really was the icing on the cake for us. Melia appears to be in the middle of nowhere, which was what we wanted, surrounded by sandy mountains and the sea. A lagoon was formed most days we were there which added to the magic and was perfect for the kids to play safely in the water. There were not many cons but for me to make it even more perfect I'd like to have seen: 2 sets of twin beds rather than a sofa bed for the kids Working heating/aircon in the room Bigger coffee cups at breakfast with faster machines Quicker lifts Longer hours at kids club Inflatables allowed at the kids pool A welcome sheet in the room saying what times activities/facilities there were Access to the hot tub for free (even if just one slot per stay - we paid and people cheekily joined us who hadn't paid) A bar near the beach! So now I just need to know, when do you reopen? We'd love to return!

Great hotel, yes a little dated but I'm sure that's why they're closing for refurbishment. Did this ruin our holiday? Absolutely not! Upon arrival we were welcomed at reception with a smile and they even took that little extra time to greet our 5 year old. She was delighted to be made to feel special so a massive thanks for that. There are 4 pools, the biggest one is the salt water pool. These were cold but it's march so I wasn't surprised. You're soon warm once you've taken the plunge. The food I thought was decent, plenty of choice and the kitchen staff work tirelessly to keep the choices available. If I was to have a moan (which I'm likely to do) it's the first week we were here. The entertainment was upstairs and outside, which was cold, however that's my own fault for only packing shorts and T shirts. The second week they reopened the fun bar downstairs and did the entertainment there which was much better. The staff are really friendly and always have a smile on their faces. Which considering the hours and pace they work is amazing. Would I stay again? Absolutely! Probably later in the year though so I don't get caught out again with my packing habits! Many thanks to all at Melia. Special mention to Diego who works behind the bar in the fun club. Really great with the kids and always smiling. Cheers.

The hotel room was really untidy and in poor condition. Our room was also clearly in one of the old areas of the hotel, far from everything, and I thought that for that price we paid you could even get a sea view, but our window was facing the hotel's parking lot. There was a hole in the sofa, there was a hole in the wall in the bathroom, and there was a lot of dust in the light fixture, which can already be a fire safety risk. These were also never cleaned. There were also holes in the curtains. The hotel restaurant staff was also really rude/improper. Especially one older lady here. There was no mention anywhere that the breakfast/dinner does not include e.g. soft drinks, but on the third day the waiter came to yell at us in the middle of the meal and demand payment for the drinks we drank. After a long conversation, we were able to discuss the matter with him and for the rest of the holiday we drank water at his command. Soft drinks were reportedly not included in the half-board, but there is no black and white about this, so we couldn't possibly have been aware. We didn't drink alcohol, because we knew that at least it wasn't part of the half-board. There were also always screaming children in the restaurant and the noise level was really high anyway. You were never allowed to eat in peace. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to couples, it’s really like a family hotel. The only good thing about our vacation was the wonderful views and the clean pool area. The water was turquoise and tall palm trees like from the Maldives.

We choose this hotel for its remote location for a quiet and relaxing week. The photos on Jet2 website present the hotel in a very favourable way. On arrival we were welcomed by very spacious and light reception area which made a good first impression. When we got to our room our opinion changed very quickly when it was obvious that there was a problem with the balcony door. There was a gap in the door frame that allowed the gale force wind to whistle through at high volume. There was no way to stop this continually loud noise. We returned to the reception area and explained the problem and we were offered an upgraded room at our expense. The new room was a lot nicer and had a great sea view. The main issues we had during our stay were the restaurant and the closure of the main bar. The dining experience was definitely dull. It felt like a staff canteen. The food was very unimaginative and sparse. The structured dining times were not managed at all and it was basically a free for all. The closed bar from the outside looked very spacious and well presented. Unfortunately, all the guest had to squeeze into the lobby bar for a pre or post dinner drink. There was very limited seating available and the quality of the drinks on the all-inclusive package were poor. However, the staff were great and coped well. The pool area was spacious, clean and nice. Improvements could be made in signposting as nobody knew where to go. On our visit the two out of three lifts were not operating and we along with everyone else had to use the stairs frequently … we were on the 9th floor. We took advantage of the spa facilities which were great. We felt that overall the hotel was a bit tired and lacking in atmosphere. We will would not book this hotel again.
