We have just come back from the Alua Suites Hotel in Corralejo, Fuerteventura and what an amazing holiday it was after a drought of 6 years due to one thing and another! The place is great and has been the best all-inclusive holiday we have been on but it could have been better. The hotel has just about everything but everything needs a bit of TLC, it has the potential to be amazing. I have listed a few tips for you below; Reception – not the most helpful of staff, gave conflicting advice and didn’t seem to care much but this wasn’t all of them. Some were great. Pools – beautiful clean pools, 8 advertised but only allowed to use 6 of them. Only open from 10am to 5pm which we thought was out of order. They are lifeguarded well though which was great. The wellness pool at the top was a cold water pool with no inflatables and ball games allowed so brilliant. Sunbeds – really pleased to see notes (see photo) on each and every sunbed advising that they are not to be reserved but sadly was not enforced by the hotel staff at all. Great shame. Pool towels – only available from 10am to 1pm daily so if you miss that slot you can’t get a towel. Reception will only give you one if it’s a Sunday which we thought was unreasonable. Cinema – the hotel has a massive cinema with dozens and dozens of seats, they even showed the football which was great. Gym – open between 8.30am – 12.30pm and 3pm – 7pm. A great gym, large and spacious with good equipment, better than you usually get. Only one problem, no air conditioning so didn’t use it after the first attempt. Activities/sport – water polo, volley ball, tennis, table tennis, boules, shuffleboard etc. But generally only available for an hour a day as part of the activities. Great staff involvement. Spa and Beauty – consisted of massage only, nothing else which was strange. Tennis courts – there a 3 of them but they are covered in sand and very poor quality. The floor is ripped up and the nets low and broken (see photos). You’d never get away with it in the UK from a safety point of view, trip hazards galore, accident waiting to happen! You have to book and pay 20 euros to use them but you get it back but woe betide you if you go over your hour, even if no one is using them! TV in our room – kept not working but it was fixed quickly when we mentioned it Phone in our room – kept ringing in the night and at 5am in the morning. Reception didn’t seem concerned on the basis it was ‘happening to a lot of people’ so we unplugged it from the wall in the end. Safe in our room – free of charge which was great and a pleasant surprise, stopped working but it was fixed quite quickly Beds - surprisingly good, slept well Drinks and food – amazing quality, very healthy choices, lots of it and something for everyone. However there are times when you cannot get any food, and drinks are only available from one bar (if it’s open) so you have to go from one end of the hotel to the other just to get a drink, generally between 5pm and 7pm. Coffee and water is not always readily available with the stations closed down. The restaurant doesn’t open until 7pm which is really late in comparison to what we are used to. This resulted in just about everyone piling in at 7pm so massive long queues. Bars – some barmen are on the take. If you give them 20 euros at the beginning of each night you will get personal service to your table and won’t have to pay for the good stuff! We refrained but many didn’t! Staff – very hard working and efficient but not always the most friendly, some couldn’t/wouldn’t raise a smile despite our best efforts. We did sense a little bit of contempt in the hotel and out and about which was uncomfortable and a shame. Evening entertainment – brilliant, really good quality, great atmosphere, entertainment staff were great. Shop – lovely shop but overpriced, shop around in the local towns and markets first and be prepared to haggle! Taxis – ordered from Reception 24 hours a day, quick and cheap Overall, a great hotel and I would go back.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment with a sofa bed in the lounge which was big enough for the three of us (adults). The complex is very clean with 8 pools and plenty of bars and places to eat. The all inclusive option was ample for a range of drinks and included some cocktails. The gym is well equipped and there is a spa offering multiple treatments. The staff are very friendly and the entertainment is good during the day and night. It is well located just a ten minute walk to the centre of Corralejo.

“Alua Suites Fuertaventura - My Favourite Club - Didn't live up to expectation”

Positives: Nice spacious room/balcony, bed massive and nice if you like firm, nice clean linen, great pillows. Fab ceiling fan in bedroom. One or two staff cracked a smile in the week, cleaners were more friendly. Housekeeping good when we requested more hangers. Good shower pressure. Gardens well maintained, lovely planting. Comfy loungers round pool.....MFC only. (No cushions at other pools.) Negatives: No exclusive MFC check-in/out so why advertise it? Token required for a plastic cup to get a drink at all pool bars, keep you cup or hand in for another token for next visit. No poolside service. No entertainment in the MFC pool area (1 chap on an accordion for approx 30 mins in 7 days). Drinks are local only unless you pay EUR20 per person per day for branded. Food terrible, same same every day and chicken nuggets in a MFC adult only lunch buffet - really?! Random mid-morning snack circulated round pool 2 days in 7 (fruit/tortilla one day and a cheeseburger cut in half the other!). MFC dinner restaurant located in main food plaza on family side, restaurant ok but then drinks/entertainment plaza outside is like Butlins. MFC bar upstairs ok but just overlooks top of awnings covering Butlins plaza below. MFC pool area nice, but no atmosphere, no music etc. Not enough parasols for 1 between 2 loungers. No shades on bali beds (all broken). Jacuzzi pool broken for 4 out of 7 days. Composite decking nice but badly fitted so you fall down a hole if you're not careful where you walk! Had to wade through flooded loo at pool area on first day but that was fixed next day. Cockroaches 4 out of 7 days in room. Shower did not drain well so tray filled up and then leaked onto bathroom floor. Shower sealant black so should be renewed (shower was clean though). No late check out available even though we only request 2-3 extra hours in room. Not the best holiday and won't be going back. Perhaps I have just been spoiled elsewhere but they need to up their game at this hotel. Not worth the money in my opinion.
