Currently on the plane home from a weeks all inclusive at the 4* Elba Carlota Hotel. All in all our holiday was ok. Food was plentiful, little bit cold as usual, nothing made us ill. Sometimes slight themes for dinner, Chinese, Mexican. Pizza, chips, salad available at lunch and dinner if you prefer to stick to what you know. The meat was varied but not of the highest quality. The sausages at breakfast were more of a traditional British type but the bacon was Spanish, very nice tho. Freshly made smoothies at breakfast. Restaurant staff very pleasant, quick to get us a drink and clear away. Self serve ice cream is very nice. Chocolate fountain a couple of times too. Disabled seating closest to the food, often managed to get the same table. Drinks, the cocktails aren’t great. If it’s a slushy one there’s barely any alcohol. Sometimes you get a slush, sometimes it’s from a jug in the fridge. Nothing tastes how it should but it’s drinkable (apart from the lemon slush as it’s almost pure lemon juice). Beer was horrible. Self serve soft drink was good and the self serve coffee machine was a nice touch. Little snack bar by the pool was good, hot dogs, pastries, cold meat /cheese and fruit. Ice creams for sale, no free little pots like we’ve seen before. Places to fill up water bottles and the fridge in the room makes it nice and cold. Easily accessible for disabled and very accommodating, except for the bar staff that smoke in the only disabled toilet near the pool and block the sink with the fag butt, I didn’t appreciate waiting for the toilet to then see staff and smoke emerge! Our room. My husband’s mattress was so lumpy he had to flip it round. The pillows are far too soft, we did get extras as only one each but not at all comfortable. The noise was extreme, every sound, every door close can be heard. Bin men from early morn, glass smashing etc, was very difficult to get a good night’s sleep (4th floor overlooking Atlántico). The bathroom needs an overhaul, stained tiles, leaking bidet. The shower was nice and powerful, the bath water came out yellow. The shower gel/shampoo 2 in 1 that’s provided is good quality. No toilet brush and the cleaners didn’t clean the toilet for the whole week even though the room smelt strongly of bleach once cleaned. Ample coat hangers, a safe in the room if needed. Air con was good. Wifi was fine for me, lost connection sometimes in the restaurant. Most places in the town are accessible and flat. They do like to put drop kerbs in just on one side so I frequently had to get off the scooter for my husband to lift it up the kerb so keep that in mind if needed. One pool is heated and it’s warm enough. Not strong with chlorine or salt so that was nice. The jacuzzi is not heated, very strange! Was interesting watching people try to run across the pool on a roll out mat, credit to the older generation as it was mostly them giving it a go. Guests are a mixture of mostly French, German and British, only a handful of children. We missed dinner one eve as closed earlier than the website said, we asked at reception if we could get any cold food and they said no, my husband went out looking for something (around midnight ) and everywhere was closed, on returning to the hotel the reception was closed completely, I’m not sure if they stay open for late arrivals but you might want to check if you’re due to arrive late, also have food with you. We didn’t attend the entertainment but it seemed to be over within an hour and there’s not much locally to do. Sunbeds were plentiful, unfortunately we didn’t have the weather we were expecting, having visited in December a few times, this time was cloudy and chilly 70% of the time. The Italian restaurant was fully booked so book on arrival if you want to go there. We weren’t told anything about the spa at the hotel next door and we didn’t see any signs to suggest we could go there at a reduced price. The beach is lovely, natural sand not like the beach down the way which is man made. Lovely little lagoons, ideal for children. I had a bit of a swim but I prefer the waves. We wouldn’t return to the Elba Carlota in the future and it needs a bit of maintenance to retain its 4* status, but will definitely return to Caleta de fuste. Ps cigarette prices in the eurospar were £35 for 200 b and h blue and about £21 for 200 Rothman blue
