“Beautiful views, quiet, getaway from main town”
We stayed 2 nights. 1 bedroom apartment, well equipped kitchenette. Lovely terrace with sea views and sun loungers! Used pool, v refreshing! Didn't have time to use Santa Cruz Spa, but you get discount for staying in apartments...

Almunecar is a small spanish town situated on the Costa tropical about a 1 hour drive from Malaga, a destination loved by the Spanish themselfs, who colonize every inch of the place from mid June to the beginning of September. If your looking for a mini Blackpool with the sun you are in the wrong place. The apartments are a good walk or drive from the beach's but this is compensated by the well proportioned terraces which are furnished to an excellent standard. Plus there is the peace and quiet not always associated with Spanish holidays. The apartments are well decorated, spotless and comfortable with most of what you would need for a pleasent stay. There is underground parking plus ample off street parking at the apartments. This is mainly a Spanish town, yes there are some good expat bars and restaurants but you will need at least some basic Spanish to get by. When you order a beer or drink in any local bar or restaurant you will get tapas, don't panick, it's free a true old fashioned tradition, just smile say thank you and enjoy.

“Nice Apartments”
We stayed in 2 bedroomed apartment, very nice, clean with balcony overlooking the sea from a distance and the hills. It appeared very quiet when we were there, probably out of season. Only downside was the gym was not open because of this. Outside pool was nice, the whole place was neat and tidy.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for 2 weeks over Christmas. The major disappointment was that the indoor pool was out of use for the entire time other than the afternoon we arrived – it was drained to replace a pump apparently which had been planned for some time. The hotel waived the usual parking charge in compensation. Note that all the pretty pictures on the web are actually of the spa pools, not the indoor pool which is wedged into a little corner of the gym and has no natural light/little surrounding area to sit etc. Also, you can only reach the pool via reception and have to walk round the road to get there but there are changing rooms. The apartment was spacious with a nice terrace and was reasonably furnished. The “fully equipped” kitchen had full size fridge/freezer, microwave, hob, washing machine and toaster but no oven although there was space for one (also no dishwasher or kettle – we took a travel kettle). More plates/cups would be helpful and very poor on utensils eg no basic things like spatula/fish slice, tin opener, sieve/colander, jug etc. Despite the Union Jack displayed on the hotel’s website the TV was entirely in Spanish (mostly US/UK programmes dubbed into Spanish). Also there was no WiFi in the room (unlike as advertised on website?). This, combined with lack of pool, led to bored kids. The key to the safe in our room had been lost apparently so we couldn’t use it. We eventually left some valuables in the hotel safe at reception but the reception wasn’t always open when it was supposed to be (nor was the restaurant), or was manned by someone who spoke no English. Always shut on Sundays, as is pool etc. The brochure in our apartment described Santa Cruz as a Retirement Village – again not apparent from website! There is another phase of building to go and there was a rather scenic crane opposite us. Other than that it is a nice spot – quiet with nice views and a nice little park down the road with a Roman Aqueduct. You can walk down to the town (5/10 mins) or beach (15/20mins) but uphill on way home. Supermarkets and McDonalds quite close by on town side of N340. Big market on a Friday.
