“Room for improvement but still an enjoyable stay”

We had read reviews for weeks prior to our holiday and were a bit apprehensive especially regarding the food. But overall, this is a good hotel. We were in room 604. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and checked in very quickly. Our room was very clean on arrival and the maids came every day during our stay. Our towels were changed when needed. The hairdryer in the bathroom was very good, so nice to have one that you don’t need to hold a button in whilst drying. The shower wasn’t great, wasn’t very powerful but this wasn’t really a problem. The WiFi was not very good at all, neither in our room or in the public areas. This didn’t bother me but was a big deal for our teens! I booked a one bedroom accommodation and presumed there would be one bedroom and a sofa bed for two adults and two teenagers. I should have looked into this more before booking. We had two double beds pushed together in a small room. So two 13 year olds and two adults all sleeping lined up. What with the adults snoring, one teen grinding his teeth and me getting out of bed for a few bathroom trips each night we didn’t sleep too well! Also, our room was quite near to the lifts which were very noisy. Breakfast wasn’t too bad. Lots of choice but no matter what time you went you had to queue to get in. The bacon and mushrooms were barely cooked but the omelettes were so good (again a long queue as they are made to order) Only managed to have fried eggs twice, as soon as the chef had made them they were gone to the people queuing for them. It was nice to have toast ready made rather than using a toasting machine yourself. The fresh orange juice was really good, the highlight of our breakfast! Lunch and dinner had a great selection. Lots of meat and fish dishes, something different every day. I agree with previous reviews, the food is never hot. But it’s not cold either and there are microwaves to use if you like your food piping hot. Most of the restaurant staff were very friendly especially Mercedes, Vanessa and Salma. The evening entertainment was mostly quiz/game shows and just kids participating. The worst part about the evenings was the queuing for drinks. Service was extremely slow, usually just one person asking what you wanted and one making the drinks. There was a barman called Iker who worked his socks off, he was there every day for our 7 days working from morning until when the bar closed. Food in the snack bar was quite good, although a few days into our holiday it closed so you had to order in the inside bar then collect your food from the outside bar. This was not ideal in torrential rain and when the outside flooded! There are four pool tables, we used these a lot as the weather was so bad. They take 2 €1 euro coins but unfortunately you cannot get change anywhere in the hotel so you need to go to the local shops to ask for change. There are no sunbed wars here (could be different peak season) The pool is closed until 10am so no getting up at the crack of dawn to bag yourself a sunbed. Pools were freezing but didn’t bother the kids at all and inflatables were allowed. Sunbeds were really comfy and pool area well kept and clean. We had torrential rain one day and the whole outside area flooded. A lot of people made the best out of it and went paddling/dancing in the rain. It then started coming inside under the door to the main bar area. Staff did absolutely nothing for a good 40 minutes. We witnessed two children slip over and it was a teenage guest who had the sense to get a wet floor sign and put it next to the huge puddle. Eventually a member of staff came and put loads of towels down but if someone had really hurt themselves the hotel could have been in a lot of trouble for not acting faster. Overall we did enjoy our stay despite spending a lot of time queuing for drinks/restaurant. This would be a fantastic hotel with a few improvements.
