We found the Ecodunas apartment hotel to be in a very peaceful location. The apartment had a view over the swimming pools and courtyard and was near the beach and river. It was equipped with a washine machine with built-in dryer, which was very useful. Out apartment could receive free wifi. The manager, Senor Manuel Guillen, was most helpful to us. The weather was abnormally cold for Spain and he organised the purchase of an electric heater for us. When one of us developed a leg problem, Senor Guillen gave us a lot of help in finding out where to purchase crutches, even though it was a Sunday over the Christmas period.

We spent 5 days here in late August as we wanted a reasonably priced get-away-from it all weekend in the sun. It was hard to find much info or reviews on Ecodunas, or the area: it is certainly quiet and a very different world to Salou etc etc and is an area where most pursuits seem to be fishing, bird-watching and kite surfing; the apartments were modern, clean and had good airconditioning. Most overlook the pool (we started off in one that didn't, and due to an air-con problem we were promptly moved) and have a balcony with table and chairs. There are 2 reasonable size bedrooms with twin beds, and a double sofa bed in the living room - it is not a problem to accommodate 6 people. We were 4 adults & 2 kids aged 7 & 5 and it was perfect for kids; the pool is about 20m long and in a sort of "8" shape so it's narrow in the middle, and is about minimum 1m 20 deep; however there is also a paddling pool. Plenty of sun loungers, we didn't have a problem getting one altho' it was the end of August & many spanish were heading home. No other Brits there, mainly Spanish, a few French/Belgian etc. The food at the restaurant was good, tho' the hours are restricted (12-3 for lunch and 8-10 for dinner), and all the staff were helpful and efficient. It is about 10 mins walk to the very sandy beach; there are no facilities here - some beach bars at the road edge, then you walk along a boardwalk to the beach. You would need to take your own mat or lounger and windbreak etc. It is uncrowded and the sea is shallow and ideal for kids. Not many places to eat in Riumar; pizzeria "Bella Mia" a couple of streets away near to the (small & pricey) supermarket was very good, and there are a couple of other bars and restaurants in this stretch that we didn't go to. We also went to the Cafe Victoria on the road by the beach which was awful (food was off & we got bitten to bits) - not recommended at all. We were also recommended by another guest to go to the seafood buffet "La Gaya" which is about 1 mile up the road heading back to Deltebre - looks v unpreposessing & is only open for lunch, but the food was great - 18Euros for adults and less for kids; v restricted days of opening out of August. This area is a vast wetland and is flat, low-lying and for the latter part of our stay there were a lot of biting insects - go prepared! Would I go back? Yes, it's 1 hr drive from Reus airport, the pool and beach are lovely, and if you are happy to be in a place that has nothing going on in the way of entertainment then this is great for a quiet and family friendly holiday.

Las Dunas apartments are situated in front of the dunes. Only a 5 minutes walk and you can lay down your towel in the sand of this peaceful beach. Las Dunas apartments are situated in front of the dunes. Only a 5 minutes walk and you can lay down your towel in the sand of this peaceful beach. No waves (?), no beach clubs, but only the sound of birds and the wind. Nothing else. The apartments are ok. Clean but poor equipped. Airconditioning works well (God bless). The rooms are quite noisy. You can hear your neighbours literally speak... Swimming pool is ok but the sun beds need to be replaced (they're almost hammocks...). If you like a drink at the pool, bring it yourself as the bar/restaurant (which is very good btw) at the ground floor has unknown opening hours. For dinner at this place, you need to make a reservation at the reception desk before 1900. We did, and dinner's fine! On itself, Las Dunas is ok but Riumar is situated in the middle of nowhere. You can find the nearest ATM on 10km... Luckily the supermarket is on the ground floor of the building. Some restaurants in town are "ok" but you better take the car to L'ampolla. We left 2 days earlier as two weeks in this area is far too long! Oh, and if you like (people with) dogs, Riumar is heaven.... :-(

“5 night uncomfortable stay”

We recently stayed for 5 nights. The apartment was fine, spacious with a balcony overlooking the pool. Nice and quiet, but, a bit noisier when it filled over the weekend. We liked the resort and the hotels location. What we didn`t like. No kettle in room - when we asked for one we got a coffee maker which does not boil water!! So had to boil water for cups of tea in pans on the cooker, The room was never cleaned or towels changed in our 5 day stay. And most importantly - the beds. We were in 303 ,slept in room facing the pool. Those mattresses are the most uncomfortable that we have ever, encountered outside of camping out. So bad ,they were almost laughable. Think "TenKo". I challenge the owner to sleep in those beds for two nights and tell me they are acceptable. However, We liked the place ,Riumar in general, and would return to Las Dunas ,but only, repeat only, if they do something about the mattress`s.

Nice and quiet area. Not a lot of tourists, but some. No noise from nightclubs etc. Apartements are self-service, sparingly equipped. Reception is only open a short time during the day. Restaurant in the building, but not a very good one. A few pricy and small supermarkeds close by (information from staff at the hotell, go to Deltebre, 12 km away, you cant stay here without a car anyway ;). Wifi comes and goes, best in the morning. Beware of mosquitos!!
