Our first time in Nerja and at Nerja Club. Mixed feelings about this hotel. Apparently this used to be a family-run hotel before Dorobe took it over and people are saying it has changed for the worse. We spoke to guests that had been coming to the hotel for many years but they all said that this would be their last time at Nerja Club because of the food. A few of them ate out after the first few nights. The food was our main gripe too as it was very hit and miss. It was ok for the first few nights but after that we just picked at things as it was much of the same which was chicken and pork plus a fish dish. There were a few variations on some nights. The food seemed to be lukewarm (even on opening at 7pm) and, as I had read reports of people being ill, I made sure I microwaved everything before I ate it so it was hot. The salads were ok (although some items like the sweetcorn tasted off occasionally). Bottled water was €2.50 but was served room temperature unless you asked for it to be chilled. The same water is sold over the road in the Mercadona for €1.50 for six bottles if you'd rather buy your own to drink afterwards. Breakfast was ok if you aren't too fussy about quality, variation and freshness. Positives - For a 3* hotel it had free facilities that you would normally have to pay for like a kettle in the room, spa, jacuzzi, gym. The sunbathing terrace was lovely and quiet with no music playing and it really was a relaxing place to be. Most of the staff were friendly and, although a bit tired, the hotel and rooms were kept very clean. It is a fair walk to the centre of Nerja or to the beach down a very steep hill, but this didn't bother us as we like walking. Summary - We loved Nerja and will definitely be back, but unfortunately not to this hotel. We knew this was a budget holiday in a budget hotel, but we did not expect cold, undercooked and dried up food. We have stayed in many 3* hotels in Spain before, but the food has always been good with regards to variation, freshness and quality. We didn't go hungry, but the food was very disappointing. Nerja Club is not awful by any means, so it may suit some people, but next time we will make sure we do more research to get better quality food as that is an important part of our holiday.

“November break in the warmth.”

Stayed at the hotel for two weeks in November and had an enjoyable stay. Clean and tidy hotel and all staff very pleasant. Dining room okay, and food, although not the biggest selection was okay, salads were always very good and there was always something for everyone. Spa was okay, guests we were able to use it twice a week free of charge which we took advantage of. Outdoor area around pool was fine, enjoyed several swims and sunbathed a few afternoons. Entertainment was put on three times a week which we enjoyed, we danced everytime it was on, including the Spanish themed evenings, if the music moves you go for it. Position of hotel was ideal if you like to explore the area. We walked from the hotel to the tower beyond Maro, to the caves of Nerja and up to El Cielo. We also did several other walks on the GR249 from the Hotel. We walked to the bus terminal ( 10-15mins from hotel) and went up to Frigiliana for several walks plus the obligatory cake and coffee. Spent some time strolling along the beaches and up to the Balcon de Europa for ice cream. Had two tours, one to the Caminito del Rey, really great trip and the other to see the sights of the villages in the interior with a nice lunch. Enjoyed our holiday, and it has to be said, a holiday is what you make it, so thank you Hotel Nerja club for our stay.

The week before we stayed here, I read some of the reviews, and as a result I wasn't looking forward to our stay. But on arrival it wasn't bad at all. The staff as has been said are all nice friendly and helpful. We asked if they will be showing the rugby in the sports bar. They hadn't planned on it but did find some games they could show and put them on for us. We had lunch there on the first day it was ok basic pub grub, but all 6 of us had no complaints. The hotel is looking tired in places and certainly our rooms could do with a bit of tlc but that said we had 3 rooms and all were clean. There was had everything we needed hot water, decent shower pressure, clean beds, a kettle, and a fridge. The rooms were cleaned daily with clean towels daily. We only really used it as a base and a place to sleep and wash. We had booked B&B, and the breakfast was good, a good choice of food and they kept it topped up reasonably quickly. The entertainment was ok and enjoyable. We did only ever catch the end of it because we were out most evenings. Other residents seemed to enjoy it as well. Would we stay here again, yes without a doubt. In short nice staff,clean,food ok,breakfast good.
