Probably a touch generous because it doesn't leave room for improvement but we really enjoyed our stay here. Perfect position ,beautifully appointed hotel with very good service throughout. It has more class than the average 4 star hotel probably because it is not a big chain brand and shows the love and dedication that 61 years of the same ownership cn bring. Certainly the place to stay in Nerja.

“Excellent Hotel. Just a Couple of Issues.”

First the good. Excellent location. Our junior suite had a view of the sea from our balcony that can't be beaten and was a really good size. The hotel is always clean, and all the staff are friendly and helpful. I just have a couple of issues. The hotel suffers from the usual reserving of sunbeds. There are three areas for sun beds. A small area overlooking the beach, the beach itself and a sun terrace with a small pool on the 5th/6th floor. There were signs not to reserve beds before 9am but once it was past this, they went pretty quickly. They lock the doors to the sun area and terrace to stop people reserving the beds early but people were actually queuing by the doors up to 30 minutes before they opened. We did notice some beds were reserved and then not even used till much later in the day. I expect this behaviour in a cheap Benidorm hotel, not somewhere up market like this. My wife and I can't be bothered with this selfish nonsense so ended up with beds on the beach every day. My other criticism is of the beach sunbeds. They are stacked up by the beach restaurant and In previous years a guy distributed them and helped you set them up. He wasn't there when we went this time. The beds aren't the easiest thing to set up and are old and falling apart. We once lugged one to the beach only to find it broken when when tried to set it up. The beach umbrellas are equally old and not fit for purpose anymore. We have already booked for next year so non of this has put us off, but it would be nice if some attention could be paid to these issues.

We are a married couple in our early 60’s and are well traveled . Thus is our 3rd visit to Nerja, staying twice previously at Hotel Rui Monica. We liked Nerja that much we thought we would try it at Christmas and stay in the Balcon de Europa ( we had walked pasted it many times ) and thought it looked nice and was central. We checked out the reviews and all sounded good .. Well unfortunately it did not meet our expectations . The hotel it’s self is built into the cliff face and the floors are topsy turvy ie reception is on floor 6 .. restaurant on floor 4 . Rooms nice and clean although dated. We paid for a balcony and sea view which was great to see the sun rise each morning . The facilities are ok but we didn’t use any of them due to the weather not being hot enough . Ie private beach , sun terrace, infinity pool and hot tub. The food was a massive let down for us .. breakfast was ok but repetitive.. not warm but nearly cold .. microwave provided if needed. Fresh omelettes, crepes etc . Dinner was not great .. not much in the choice of meats tbh .. if you like fish ( which we don’t) there is plenty of choice .. the quality of food was appalling.. meat was tough and always covered in some kind of sauce.. beef was tough, found bones in breast chicken korma, sauce was runny.. salad dishes covered in too much dressing .. veg over cooked baked potatoes with some sort of cheese on was very hard and crunchy to eat . Peas and carrots looked as though they had come from a tin ! Nothing looked fresh ..Christmas Day gala was even worse . I will post photos and you make your own minds up . We only had the first course . .. looked at the Turkey (when it eventually arrived . It took an hour per course) and refused to eat it .. we left after that and didn’t bother with the desert or staying for the disco/DJ . Out of the 3 courses for the main meal 2 were fish and the Turkey .. If you enjoy food as part of your holiday like we do DONT STAY HERE. Very disappointing.. couldn’t wait to get home . Oh btw the manger/manageress who walks round in a morning at breakfast asking if everything was ok … Didn’t comment or offer anything when we said the food was poor.
