“Beautiful”

Beautiful hotel and Almería is a chilled out version of Spain. If you want a relaxing holiday this is the right place to go. Beautiful hotel and Almería is a chilled out version of Spain. If you want a relaxing holiday this is the right place to go. Rooms are well maintained and cleaned daily with fresh towels and fridge stocked daily with soft drinks. Excellent food large choice something for everyone. Asian & Italian restaurants were lively makes a nice change to be served your food, again good choice & excellent service. Pool areas well maintained and enough space and loungers for everyone no need to get up at stupid o’clock to reserve. Beach is gravel so beach shoes recommended. Very flat area good for daily walk. Nothing to complain about from us!!

This was our second time visiting this hotel so we knew roughly what to expect. It is looking a little tired now needs a little TLC but other than that we had another relaxing stay. There was always a good variety of food out at all meal times. There is a show cooking area which changes every meal time too. Food is warm and replenished quickly. Plenty of seating in the dining room. In the lifts it has notices which inform you when it is quietest to eat in the dining room. Entertainment could do with a tweak at night. It is still the same things as we had a few years ago. Maybe a fresh line up as many guests seem to be regulars who come to this hotel. Room was a little dated but had everything in it that was needed. The fridge was stocked daily with bottles of pop. There is a kettle in the room with supplies of tea, coffee and powdered milk. The bathroom was a good size with toiletries supplied. There is also a safe in the room, which unlike some hotels you did not have to pay for. Plenty of storage in the wardrobes. Staff are always busy but very friendly. A big shout to the two barmen who work at the bar by the outdoor stage. They never stop and are so helpful. Same problem here with sunbeds though. People always out 6 am setting up their sunbeds even though there is plenty of beds to go around. Hotel is in a lovely location. Out through the back of the hotel and you are on the Promenade. Go to the right and you go to the naturalist beach along the Promenade. Go to the left and you can have a lovely walk passing eateries and a few shops. This will take you to the castle and Roquetas town. Go out of the front of the hotel and to the left you can catch a bus for just a couple of euros to The grand Plaza Shopping Centre or to Almeria. The is a few shops in front of the hotel and bars. The beach is very coarse so take some footwear. There is also sunbeds available on the beach at a cost. People selling wares on the Promenade but they do not pester you in to buying anyting. All in all had a lovely relaxing holiday.

We have stayed at Protur hotels before so had a good idea of what to expect from this one, and were not disappointed. First impressions count and the Protur Roquetas gives this in spades - beautiful front facade of the hotel, and then a glorious open and high reception area with a bar. The rooms themselves were fine, but some things need fixing (the sealant in our shower was falling off, and the sliding door to the toilet had a big gap in the ceiling where you could see all the wiring - not ideal!) All the staff we encountered were excellent, friendly and attentive. Mauricio the rep was very informative and helped us out with a few questions as we had not been in the area for about 12 years or so. All the food was good as well, the usual high standard buffet provided by Protur and Best in Spain. We enjoyed the spa area but were somewhat misled by the TUI website into thinking we would get a free 30 min massage at some point but this was not the case - we booked a 2 person massage / sauna experience to share which was 110 Euros, so about what youd expect for a spa treatment in the UK which was a very relaxing experience. The door for the Turkish Bath in the spa would not shut properly... we didnt understand why the Sauna area isnt part of the spa, and the indoor pool looked a bit tired and needs a bit of retiling... but other than these tiny issues its a great addition to the hotel. We used the gym only once because it opens at 10am with the Spa which isnt ideal for those who want to start early on any fitness stuff - we were told you could request the key at reception if you wanted to work out early but this just seemed a bit of a faff (or maybe we just took that as an excuse to not work out, haha). I noticed on some of the other reviews that people were unhappy about the entertainment volume in the evening - we had no issues with the entertainment volume INSIDE the report, but we did with the hotel next door to our room (the Alua? something like that) as their volume on a couple of nights was louder than Slipknot at Download Festival. Not sure what Protur can do about that? We only used out balcony once (Block 3) because that side has the hotel power generators on and they were pretty noisy. Some other reviews have also said that there are loads of families with young kids - this is true but it didnt really bother us. Finally - it *is* a 5* hotel because those stars are based on facilities offered, NOT the quality of the rooms. The Dorchester this is not : if you are after a 5* room experience then look elsewhere, and by that I mean a completely different town / area. OK, so this sounds like a load of minor niggles but they really are minor - we had an excellent time overall, so now onto some solid positive stuff : * The place is impeccably clean. Staff are constantly cleaning things, from the signs out the front to the banisters, to the whisking away of empty glasses etc. * The architecture of the place is really quite impressive. Two "running river" water features in each side of the resort provide a certain calmness and serenity just by looking at them. Just look up near the lifts and be impressed by the view, we certainly were. * The restaurant Maitre'd was superb and had full control over the place, the people, everything. A very impressive chap, give him a raise Protur! * The quality and variety of drinks on the all inclusive is excellent. I developed quite a taste for Brugal rum which I hadnt had since I went to the Dominican Republic years ago... and the staff are generous with their measures. * The pool bar was fab - its not DIRECTLY next to the pool but its close enough, actually having it that little bit further away is a good idea in my opinion. Also has a TV for showing whatever sport is on at the time. * There is a Security door onto the beach to keep people out. All the hotels have one and this place is no exception, good to see security taken seriously. * On some nights there will be a visit from the Roquetas Piano Man (well, thats what we called him) who will play the piano in reception. You pick songs you want to hear from his song book, then you WhatsApp him your request and he plays it. We had an excellent time with him one evening, sat next to the bar. * The Terrace is well worth a look if you want to get some sun away from the families. Its REALLY HOT up there though so get your sun tan lotion ready. * At the side of the pool bar is a little chillout area. We used this quite a bit. They could perhaps have more chiled out music there though, rather than playing whatever is on the telly (which at some points was very loud football commentary... not exactly eliciting a chillout mood). * As mentioned above all the staff are fantastic, a particular shout out to Jose who was manning the bar one minute, then was our waiter at the Italian restaurant about 20 minutes later. These guys can multitask and they do it very very well and with a smile on their face! * The WiFi is very good everywhere except the Terrace area, including the Asian and Italian restaurants. Useful to know stuff : * If you want to use the Spa you need to book your 90 min slot with the Spa staff in the basement, and you can book as many slots as you like. * There is a hair dryer in the room. * Your minibar will get restocked daily with soft drinks. * The safe in your room is free to use, unlike many hotels. * The hotel says its non-smoking but what they mean is you cant smoke IN the hotel or in your room. You can smoke behind the pool bar and in the chill out area. * A book / magazine exchange area is opposite the restaurant if you run out of stuff to read, in multiple languages. * If you want to get the bus anywhere the nearest bus stop is just down the road outside the Golf Trinidad hotel. * There is a Supermarket and a Tabacos the other side of the road less than 500 yards away. * There is an on site Kids Club which had a sandpit, a separate pool, tons of lego etc and all the kids seemed to really enjoy it. I would have no problem popping my toddler in here for a few hours! In closing I would definitely return to this hotel in the future, it is undoubtably the best we have stayed in when visiting Roquetas. It has all the amenities you could hope for in a hotel, but just needs a tiny bit of work on the rooms and the Spa area to really push it up to "excellent".
