This is a very lovingly restored Cantabrian villa with plenty of authentic features yet enough of a modern twist to satisfy travelers. It's more of a posada (guest house) than a hotel I'd say. Family run and very well looked after. The owner is always about keeping everything ship-shape. Posadas are better bets than 3* hotels in this area anyway. Rooms nicely decorated, very clean, wooden floor boards, beamed ceilings. Breakfast is a bit basic, yet, good quality. I asked for a plate of Jamon Iberico to supplement mine (at a cost) but was well worth it as it was fantastic. We chose this hotel due to its proximity to the fantastic beach at the bottom of the hill (walkable) which we discovered the previous year (Playa de Berellin). Dramatic cove with rock formations and a striking arch. The beach is unique. This hotel is good for a couple of nights or so as a base to explore or a stop-off. It's not a hotel you go to in order to sit around the hotel though. I would recommend it, especially considering quality against price.

We booked our stay, probably like others, as a stopover on our way to the Picos; for this it is a good location. Our experience was well rewarded to the extent that we decided to re-visit on our way back! The location is quiet which appealed and we enjoyed some good walking along quiet roads and headland near to the sea - the sea is probably about a mile away. The rooms were clean and of a very good standard and have great views of the hills or distant sea. Infact the bed we slept in on our return was one of the best we've slept in. Breakfast was limited; we only had croissants and bread but with good coffee - unfortunately no fruit. Our spanish was limited though but we got by and the owner's daughter had some English and a genine caring manner. The nearby town (2 mls) San Vicente, is pleasnt for a few days with good sea food restaurants and access to nearby good beaches for surfing and walking etc. We would definitely return for a few days away in a quiet location, or on the way to the Picos, or going further down the coast - the location is also just off the main highway.

Spotlessly clean facilities, moderately comfortable beds, very kind and accommodating hosts are plus points,but its location though picturesque is simply of the highway break hotel variety and not a destination hotel. It lacks a restaurant, outdoor seating or other amenities for guests and the village has none, so the hotel is just a place to sleep. A few kms to the highway and a several kilometers to the coast and lovely villages. Fine for an overnight stop (if you have already eaten).

We stayed here on a trip through northern Spain. It is ideal for a first stop off the boat from Santander or even Bilbao. Stunning views of the mountains when it is clear, which is by no means guaranteed. We were in the region for four days and one was a complete blank and one overcast. It rains a lot. The hotel is very basic, not really a restaurant and minimal facilities. Not that we minded but there is no English spoken except for the owner's very helpful daughter. Perfectly clean though and a nice room with a view and the region is so interesting that little time is spent in the hotel. San Vicente is ten minutes by car, a very buzzy place with excellent good value sea food restaurants. Lots of places to walk to and visit along the coast (don't miss Camillo) and up into the mountains. Like everywhere in Spain the roads are outstanding, so easy to go in any direction.
