I have just returned from a four day trip to this hotel. It was my first solo trip so I was slightly nervous. I can honestly say that Onabrava is the best 4 star hotel I have stayed at. It was spotlessly clean throughout and the staff were so nice. The room was lovely and I had a balcony with a sea and mountain view. There were plenty of beds around the pool with lots of activities for kids and adults held throughout the day. I had breakfast in the hotel and lunch/dinner in La Pergola which is on the grounds. Food in both places was delicious. I would definitely stay here again and can't wait to return.

“Nothing to complain about - plenty to like!”

The hotel building looks dated from the outside, but inside the communal facilities are much more modern, and really good. We sat by the pool and, although we never used it, it looked very clean. The poolside entertainment is relentless - loud euro-pop, and young yellow-coats dancing. It didn't bother me, but it's aimed at children and probably isn't relaxing for the elderly. The outside restaurant is great - really good food and bar. The staff are really friendly, but over-run at busy times. We stayed half-board. Breakfast offered a wide variety of choice. The quality is pretty good. Dinner is similarly extensive, and impressive quality. You do have to pay for drinks, of course, and these are overpriced. You are entitled to tap water in Spain, legally, and they definitely don't want to encourage this. The indoor spa facilities are expensive, but very good. The hotel communal areas are kept very clean, including the public toilets. Likewise, the whole hotel runs very smoothly and efficiently. The hotel staff are friendly, helpful and professional. Our rooms were good, but not great. The bath/shower was tired and dated. Brits might want to consider packing a mini-kettle - the rooms do have fridges. The beds were fine - firm mattresses and pillows, but no concerns. As with the rest of the hotel, the rooms were kept very clean. The hotel and beach are separated by a train track. The station is a 3 min walk, and tickets to Barcelona are excellent value - especially if you're used to British trains. To get to the beach you have to walk parallel to the train track - 10 mins left out of the hotel, to the busy part of the beach, or 3 mins right to the quieter end. If you choose left / busy, expect to be hounded relentlessly by hawkers offering foot massages, and various fake merchandise. It's not relaxing. The beach is a long stretch, with a steep decline to the sea and a strong drag. When it's choppy, it's potentially unsafe for anyone who isn't a fit, strong swimmer. That said, we were in most days, as were others. The resort frontage around the hotel has a busy nightlife - market stalls, shops, bars. It's a bit naff, but slightly more upmarket naff. British holidaymakers are the minority (which we liked.) It seemed like 75% of the tourists in the main resort area were German. We were lucky to be here to watch Germany knocked out of the Euros by Spain. It was the perfect end to the holiday really.

We were a couple but part of a large group of about 35 bridge players and the system coped well with that. We didn’t use the pool area but there were plenty of sun beds. Breakfast was very good especially the Nespresso coffee and there was a large variety of hot and cold dishes. Dinner was ok but less good and an awful lot of dishes with pork, which we have found elsewhere in Spain too. Wide choice of salads, main dishes , puddings and fruit. The hotel was spotless and staff pleasant , the rooms were on the small side but adequate. Lunches at the pergola were enjoyable though the same menu of pizza, pasta , burgers , salad and tapas as every restaurant along that front. Something different like omelettes would have been welcome. Drink prices there and in the bar reasonable. It’s a pity they don’t supply tea and coffee in the rooms. We paid 10 euros for a kettle and starter tea, coffee etc but others in the group had brought their own kettle or bought one at carrefour nearby. The hotel is very close to the railway which is convenient but I did notice the noise as we were at the front of the hotel
