We first came to the Hotel Catalonia in sept 2018 for 5 nights all inclusive. Our holiday then was amazing and the staff cannot do enough for you and the roof pool is fab. Unfortunately when we returned in June the first night was a disaster. As it was my other half’s birthday I asked for a sea view or higher floor but we were given room 105; it was dingy and small and the noise of the hotel next door was ridiculous and I thought I had made a grave error. The next morning I spoke with Ana Marta, reception manager and she moved us to the 8th floor. From then on we had a great stay. The rooms are clean and the staff are lovely. The hotel is 3 star and I’ve read numerous reviews where people have complained but they clearly expected 5 star service for 3 star bucks! Yes there’s a few cracked tiles here and there and sometimes the food is a bit samey but for a budget break this place is great. The roof pool is small but perfectly formed and we were quite happy to sit up there most of the day tanning. I’ve researched most the hotels and accommodation in Calella and pound for pound the Hotel Catalonia is the best value for money.

“Clean/nice food/let down by miserable staff”

Just come back from a family holiday at this hotel. Hotel itself is nice, cleaners do a great job of keeping it clean and tidy, rooms were always immaculate. Food in restaurant is nice and the waiters and waitresses were always lovely..however the hotel is majorly let down by the rest of the staff, apart from the older gentleman who wears glasses on the bar and the very tall young man who works on bar who were semi friendly the rest were awful. There’s a young small lad that works on the bar he was there most days and nights and he was beyond miserable he made you feel uncomfortable ordering a drink he could never understand what the drink was anybody ordered even though I ordered the same gin&tonic every night I’d have to point to the bottles, I’ve never met such unfriendly people! The reception staff don’t as much as crack a smile it was the manager of the hotel we checked out with and he never said 1 word! It’s like the workers are in prison being forced to work, I’ve never known anything like it! When I’ve visited Spain in the past they’re usually very overly friendly and very family oriented! Not at this hotel and it’s a shame because for that reason I would not come back nor recommend it to anybody! Also the Wi-Fi you pay for which I didn’t mind doing but it doesn’t work the connection is terrible!
